At the end of the summer, a new family moved in a couple houses up the street. I went over and welcomed them, they were nice, a little girl and a tiny little baby. I talked to the guy a few times, he seemed a little odd but who am I to judge?

Kinja'd!!!

well the other day there were fire trucks, ambulances and police at his house. We speculated that he was doing some work on the house and either cut himself or maybe since he is in the flooring union, was refinishing a floor and got a face full of chemical or something. NO, that mother fucker was OD’ing.

Now this is a nice neighborhood. I mean someone sent me a letter cuz I hadn’t mower my lawn in time. (i still don’t know who did it but I have a couple guesses - either the former owner or the lady across the street has health issues and i guess its gone into her mind) I can;t wait to see the letters that mother fucker gets. Apparently they are going to be putting the house back on the market and the wife and husband are splitting.

I know a dopehead living in a two million dollar house and I know others who are living on the street or nearly there. The shit is everywhere! Nice that they’re leaving your hood, but a shame for the family.

My neighbor once told me it was totally cool to smoke weed in our backyard if we so desired and that she wouldn’t care. I’m not sure where she got the impression that 1) we smoked or 2) we were looking for her approval. Good to know between her rants about the previous owners and the fact that her fixed income prevents her from fixing her fence that is leaning against my house she’s chill.

yea, this is a pretty nice quite neighborhood, which is why we picked it. that shit has no place here. Everything can be fixed (even Allroads) it would be nice to see them fix the problem instead of the route they are going, but I can’t say i’m upset they are leaving.

...I think the anonymous letter mentioning the lawn pisses me off more...

People deserve karma for that sort of shit. Nothing too bad mind. Maybe a stubbed toe immediately after they post each letter would do. Enough to send a message.

Why’s he a motherfucker? At least he kept his lawn mowed.

(I couldn’t resist).

To be honest, though, the guy must not have been a total waste. He obviously had some good intentions in life (family, presumably a job, house in a decent neighborhood). With opioids being the problem that they are (and I’m assuming it was an opioid OD), it’s hard to say. Opioid addiction isn’t just affecting the “dregs of society”. He could’ve had back surgery, been on an Oxy scrip, and become addicted.

And that’s one of the reasons I love living in the woods with no neighbors.

No fences leaning on my house, and I can get stoned on my back porch without the approval of others.

We have had some crazy neighbors. I live in the fanciest neighborhood in my town, mostly 6,000 square foot houses and some smaller, McMansionish ones (I live with my parents). When we moved up here, there was a house next door to us where there had been a messy divorce, and the guy was making meth and sleeping on a cot inside. Last I heard, after they forclosed, he moved to be a physicians assistant on an Indian reservation in South Dakota and died of an overdose of some stripe.

Yeah I don’t think I’m built for neighbours. I’d absolutely leave the grass to grow or the leaves to collect for a week longer simply because of the passive-aggressive letter ;)

We’ve had a couple of incidents on our street where the male has been abusive to his partner, one was across the road and the girlfriend ran out the house into the street crying, me and a neighbour went over and had a word with the bloke, that house was quickly back up for rent. Another was a next door neighbour in a rented house. The walls are thick enough but if you shout you can be heard next door. Well from my grand father’s room I heard the guy hit his partner so I went down stairs and hammered on his front door. It went quiet inside but I kept hammering, the guy came to the front upstairs window and asked what I wanted, I not so politely said, ‘I want you sunshine, hit her again and I’ll rip your f*cking head off’. He shouted back it was nothing to do with me and to go away and he hadn’t done anything, to which I replied, ‘you have to come out sometime’. They moved shortly after that too.

There was a druggy living down the road who would make a bit of noise from time to time but he eventually got the message and moved on.

chill out. as you can see in my reply to tripper, I’m not cold blooded. I know this stuff is a huge problem and would liek to see the guy get help instead of getting dumped by his wife. This guy made dumb choices and is messing up his family and life. it brings nothing good to him his family or the people around him. It and the people associated with it bring nothing good to a neighborhood filled with kids. I don’t know his story, but I’m pretty sure there is no good excuse for getting into heroin.

The shit is everywhere. I hate it. I hate everything about it.

My uncle, who I was very close to, relapsed after a decade clean and OD’d on heroin. This was nearly 25 years ago, when I was in middle school. My uncle worked for my dad, lived a few blocks away, and was a very big part of my life. That was the start of a very dark period in my family’s life. My dad blamed himself for not seeing the relapse coming and stopping it, and fell into a very deep depression that lasted years. My mom was barely able to hold the family together. I’m still mad at my uncle, but mostly I just miss him.

My heart aches for his family.

From your post, you think it’s amusing that he OD’d and will get letters like you did when you didn’t cut your grass. You think the guy “sucks” because the one thing you know about him is that he is an opiate addict who overdosed. You are under the illusion that “nice neighborhood” and addiction are mutually exclusive. You don’t have any compassion for this man, his wife and his children. You have so little concern, in fact, that you posted about this disruption in your otherwise idyllic life on a car enthusiasts blog. And you want me to chill out?

Lol. Ye’, I don’t like confrontation but I can come across as very angry when I need to.

I once had a male bouncer want to go into the disabled toilet where my drunk female friend had spilt some beer on her jeans and had taken them off to try and dry them on the hand dryer.

When I asked the other bouncer why he pulled the other guy away after I got my friend into a taxi, he replied, ‘you were white in the face with anger, not red, we know when to back down’. Unfortunately my other mates had given up looking for where I went and had gone home.

Sometimes aggression works but shouldn’t be used as you end up being just like them. You should really exhaust all other channels such as getting in touch with their letting agent and/or owner pf the property, then local authorities and local police.

But if your lot are moving out, result.

I’ll second that. I’m lucky to be able to live in the woods, but I’m 8 minutes door-to-door from my work at a nearby university, and my wife gets on the highway in 5 minutes, and commutes to her job about 50 min. but there’s never any traffic, and it’s nearly all highway.

The worst we have is random hunters in the forest near my house. Or this one time, someone strung up a LONG series of clear fishing line, in a sort of fence, across a huge swath of my property along the far edge. Like, 3 rows, a few feet apart, up to about 6' high, from tree to tree across 1000 feet of my peoperty- starting and ending on other’s property, I’m sure without permission there as well. I’m guessing it was to keep deer away from something, or to direct them into an area for hunting... I don’t know but I cut down every single strand of it.

That is awful on many levels, and I hope the guy straightens himself out.

Our only immediate neighbor’s house (we’re on a dead end with woods in every other direction) just sold. The old couple living there were very nice, and very quiet. Now a 25-ish girl is living there with a roommate and a boyfriend (presumably) spends a lot of nights there, too. He has a nice WRX with a fabulous exhaust - not raspy at all, but just a nice, deep sound I didn’t know was possible to extract from a small flat-4. Like, I can hear it from inside my house, but it sounds like what my E46 sounds like when it’s right outside. He’s 300+ feet away.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah, I hope they’re not remotely into any of this sort of thing. I know they smoke weed; that’s fine by me. Please let’s keep it at that.

This neighborhood has a lot of houses that are big for the sake of big. Generally, they are 4000-6o00 square feet. Some interesting ones, but not a lot. Ours is about 5900, built in 2006, and needs quite a bit of stuff to look good. They didn’t even put paint in the bathroom walls when we moved here in 2012.

weed (in my opinion) is on the same level as drinking. on top of that, people tend to mellow out instead of getting all fired up and crazy as when drunk. what gen WRX is it? I don’t think the newest one sounds as good as the previous gen.

A great number of people became heroin addicts because they were over prescribed opiates by doctors. The Curren and former CEOs of the largest fentanyl producer in the world, Insys, is currently on trial for bribing doctors to prescribe his drug.

I agree on the weed thing. I’d probably still smoke if it were entirely legal. At least, I’d consider using it in some fashion; lung cancer isn’t the best.

The WRX I believe is the prior gen. I’ve only had a brief look, but it’s not the newest one. Didn’t they change the exhaust configuration and lose the different-length headers, thus the famous “burble” ... something like that?
