Kinja'd!!!

Usually this lady is ranting about people “from outside the neighborhood” using the basketball hoop, but this time she’s being nice, I guess.

Neighborhood Facebook groups are usually pathetic and consist mostly of trying to identify “suspicious vehicles” parked on the curb that are actually...wait for it...guests at the house they are parked at!

While that may be true, I better pester the police to come investigate!

That is 100% correct. There was a thread recently about a bunch of cars parked by a house and the usually whining and hand-wringing about “what if the police need to get there?” stuff. Then someone helpfully mentioned that all of those people were there for a funeral.

Didn’t even shut most of them up. Ugh.

Fun story, when I first bought our house we were renovating it before moving in. The first house on the street was broken into, and a very specific thing was stolen, in other words, it was targeted.

Still, people were on High Alert for Suspicious Vehicles, of which my “patina’d” 1972 Ford pickup was determined to be one. So one night, I’m laying down polyurethane on my basement stairs with music blasting because, again, empty house and HELLO THIS IS THE POLICE comes from upstairs. I couldn’t come up because wet polyurethane, so I got a very cautious officer walking around the corner of the stairway door, because they had no idea what they were walking into. All was well after I explained who I was, that my truck was mine and no, I’m not breaking into anyone’s house and then hiding four doors down with the truck blatantly parked in the driveway with all the freaking lights on in the house. We then had a good laugh over it. All the while, an obnoxious hard rock/metal radio station was blasting so we were yelling to each other.

Good times.

That would freak me out, did they have weapons drawn? And that truck was probably a magnet for attention. Movies/tv are full of bad guys in old American pickups!

Sounds like the cop was pretty cool at least, and probably mildly annoyed at having to follow up with you on it to begin with.

No weapons drawn, as the local cops in my town are pretty sharp, really. I suspect they knew the truck was local - they’re very observant when it comes to what cars are local - and they were following up on the call. Still kinda freaked me out, to be clear.

It sure made it awkward introducing myself to the neighbors after that, pulling up in the truck - it was my only vehicle for a while at that time. I pulled up to one house and I could hear a kid yell, “Mom! That truck is here!” haha oops
