I hate it when in at a red light, the person behind me gets as close to my bumper as possible. Sometimes it looks like they aren’t even going to stop in time. When I stop I leave a normal amount of room in front of me. When they get close to me, I move up a few inches and wait to see if they move too. When they do, I move up another few inches and see how many times they will move up too. Its crazy how many time some people inch up at a red light with nowhere to go.

Install a floodlight against the back window that turns on when you want people to stop fucking around. That’s what truck drivers here do: they have floodlights to the right and to the left of the semi and when they need to turn they turn them on so that assholes that don’t give way move the fuck out of their way!

Put it in reverse just to scare them. Be sure to have a dashcam in case of incidents.

In my area, it is a thing to pull up a mile from a crosswalk/intersection, then slowly creep forward for the duration of the light. When I am behind these people, I also move forward, just to play with them.

Once they’re up close put it in reverse.

If stopped on a slight incline, I like to use the clutch to “bounce” the car back and forth when someone is too close to me. Obviously it doesn’t work if the road is flat or at a decline, and if it’s too steep I won’t do it because it’ll eat the clutch up.

I do that at lights if I can, at least after a hard stop, so the pads don’t burn a high spot in the rotors.

If I’m pointed uphill, I’ll take my foot off the brake and let the car roll backward a bit just to annoy them. I won’t creep slowly like that, to avoid clutch wear.

And just what the hell do these people think they’re gaining anyways?

I don’t understand the people that stop with like a whole car length between them and the car in front of them then never move until the light changes.

I’d much rather have people pulling up close behind than the sort of asshole who leaves a ton of room blocking turn lanes, forcing traffic to back up to the next light, etc.

There’s not really any need to leave much room, obviously you don’t want someone charging up behind you and slamming on the brakes at the last minute, but if someone creeps up there’s no problem. You need to leave a little space in case of a manual transmission car rolling back, especially on hills, but you still really shouldn’t need to be leaving a huge gap, that rollback should be measured in inches, not feet.

I love this game. I rolled back at a parking garage recently and the asshat behind me was honking at me and getting all fired up for no reason.

This is the single best feature of my old truck. It didn’t have factory backup lights, so someone installed two floodlights on the rear bumper, operated by a switch on the dash. I can flick them on and off at will, for tailgaters, high-beam offenders, etc. and I cackle with glee every time.

I don’t understand the people that stop with a full car length then inch forwards ten times. Just pull up to the damned car and stop. When you go home, do you come to a complete stop at the end of the driveway and inch forwards to the house?

I get to deal with a left turn lane every morning where people leave enough room to play a full court basketball game in between cars, and end up blocking access to the right turn lane. I can turn right on red if you fuckers wouldn’t leave a commercial real estate sized plot of land vacant in the left turning lane.

Agreed - I always leave just enough space for me to be able to go around them if they break down.

I get what you are saying, but it annoys me when I look in the rear view mirror and all you can see is the logo on the grill of the truck because they are so close.

I know where the red light cameras are here, so I seldom hard stop :)

That’s a good reason, but the typical Seattle metro driver probably hasn’t thought of things like that - not that it matters in their Camrolla or dopey CUV.

yea thats not much better, I just leave enough room so that if they guy infront of me decided to turn his blinker on when the light turns green, i can still get out from behind him.

In places with congestion cars should be practically bumper to bumper at a light so turning lanes don’t get blocked and stuff like that. Sometimes it’s unnecessary to be close at all though.

Can’t say I understand this. The asshat that’s too close is probably just assuming you’ll be making forward progress since youre in drive not reverse like everybody else.

that’s something that used to be taught in the UK but the primary reason for doing it was just incase the car in front broke down instead of them being in the wrong lane. can’t say many people do that though

I hate those fucking people. You didn’t just decide you were turning, you sack of shit. Did this happen to me this morning? Did I miss an entire light because the jackass needed a space big enough for that Tundra pulling the space shuttle to turn left through the intersection before he would go? You guess the answer.
