Inspired by Bman76s post.

Thr Grand Prix GXP,

Kinja'd!!!

Or the Bonneville GXP?

Kinja'd!!!

Both were offered around the same(ish) time, both were similar in specs, but why would choose one of the 2?

Grand Prix GXP - it has an LS. The bonneville has a northstar variant known for dying. A lot. Often quite badly. And expensively.

The Bonnie, the GP looks like garbage by comparison.

Both of which look better than any Grand Am.

The Grand Prix. It used the LS4 and they’re fairly cheap now. A really cheap way to have a ton of fun and build a monster roll racer. I’ve always had a soft spot for these.

Solstice GXP is the right answer, because screw FWD, passengers and cargo space.

Just be prepared to replace your transmission like its going out of style. They strapped a tranny spec’d to handle 280 lbs-ft to an engine that makes 323 lbs-ft. There is a thread out there with nearly 300 people who have killed the tranny attached to the LS4, nearly all of them killed it before 50k, several before 20k.

My wife somehow pedaled a Buick Lacrosse Super(same drivetrain as a GXP) to 100k and the dealer is in awe that the tranny made it this far. It started slipping last week and we are looking at either a $3.2k repair or a new car. I’d do it myself, but it’s an engine-out job and I don’t know how long it would take me to get it done.

Holy shit that’s expensive! Can you retrofit a stronger trans into these?

There is a guy that sells ones that are upgraded, but they start at $2k just for the tranny.
