Foy is just a force of nature that won’t stop. First saw him on KOTR this year and I was amazed. I don’t know who should be SOTY but Foy and Baekel are up there. This kid I just posted is a monster too.

I played countless hours of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (the first one) on my PS1 if that counts. But I never actually owned a skate board and at most could skate around in straight lines. I mostly played that game to listen to the soundtrack, especially Jerry Was a Racecar Driver by Primus. I was also never really any good at that game either but it was fun facing the challenge.

I had a depressing thought the other day. Remember what a big deal pro skateboarding used to be? Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, and all the other larger than life legends ripping it up? Pro gaming is the current generation’s pro skateboarding.

Skateboarding is alive and well, maybe not as mainstream as it once was. These guys out there now are way better than we ever dreamed of being and it’s amazing. Check out Thrasher’s youtube if you think that kids don’t go outside anymore.

I know skateboarding is still healthy and that it’s still progressing and innovating like nobody’s business, but when I was growing up it was everywhere. You could grab any kid in the school and ask them to name three skateboarders, almost anyone you picked would be up to the task. Now it’s almost like skating has returned to its roots, more underground, more on the fringes and in back alleys. Which I don’t mind per se, because it will always be strong there. My disappointment is more what it’s been replaced with. I love me a good video game, but the idea of a gamer being held in the same regard as my generation held the Hawkman... ugh

wow, just wow. I’m not much of a skateboarder other than a longboard as transportation sometimes, but I grew up around it, and I still love to wakeskate behind the boat - falling hurts a lot less, too. But that guy is incredible. Thanks for sharing that!

I spotted Louie a year ago in the Volcom Holy Stokes video, definitely impressed me.
You skate? I try but I’m not great. I managed to land my first ollie this year. Felt super cool, looks like absolute shit on video!

I do skate, not well and not often but it’s fun. I’ve been doing it forever and I still keep a board in my car at all times. Practice whenever you can and having others to skate with definitely makes it more fun.
