Which I finally just saw last night was...
...not good.
I guess spoilers?
I guess I just couldn’t figure out what it wanted to be.
Was it a war movie? A Percy Jackson movie? A fish out of water movie? A romance story? A video game cut scene movie? I mean I liked the fight scenes and there were some great performances but SOOOO much of this movie made no sense to me, like continuity and plot hole kinda sense. I honestly didn’t get this movie and at and I was even in full brain off, action movie entertainment mode.
Sorry but I maintain that the only good DC character in movies is batman.

I honestly agree with everything you said. I really don’t understand why this one was so popular besides the feminist angle. The girlfriend thought it was stupid as well.

Hollywood doesn’t know how to write strong female leads. And when they do it comes off looking like they deliberately made a strong female lead, which is just as bad as the vapid fanservice female leads we usually get.

No, it wasn’t that. It just wasn’t a well made movie. It felt both long and drawn out and rushed. Like half a dozen related short stories glued together.

I enjoyed it, but I didn’t go to Wonder Woman in the hopes of seeing Citizen Kane . It was a fun diversion, nice to look at (I could look at Gal Gadot all day long), and entertaining. Sure, it was a mile wide and an inch deep, but it’s a super hero movie for heaven’s sake. I don’t go to a super hero movie to see deep character development or find pathos, though Marvel is doing a pretty good job at that these days.

Also, was that the wimpiest god of war casting ever? Its not like the deception paid off either, his character was telegraphed as soon as my wife (a greek mythology buff) mentioned that Dianna and Ares are related.

Info appreciate the general lack of flagrant “sex-i-fy-ing” of her character though. If they endeavor to continue the character there will likely be a more developed backstory/flashback movie. I think that WW was also done with a smaller budget than the other DC Warner Bros films iirrc.

I went in expecting an mind number, but the quality of the film making actually bothered me so much it pulled me out of the story. I mean don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t do better but other people could have and do.

I have seen the new Justice League movie, after having seen the other Ben Affleck Batman movie (movies?). I think DC has a real problem with their storytelling. Marvel has got their system well honed, and continue to put out excellent movies in this genre. I think part of their success is that they aren’t tied to the human world. They are free to traipse all over the galaxy and go to all kids of fantastic places. Their characters are also generally deeper and more interesting. We saw Ragnarok last weekend, and while I thought it was a bit long, it had a coherence to its vision that is sorely lacking in the DC films. And when the characters from different universes come together, it just seems to make sense.

And the thing that bothered me the most, (other than the weak af 3rd act) if a single bullet could destroy the whole plane of poison gas, why not have sniper dude shoot it while it’s on the ground......

I realize its not possible to avoid the conversation about her being a her in this movie, but I’ve seen enough strong female lead movies in my life that I’m kinda over the idea that its supposed to be a new idea or something. Not saying im some kind of woke individual or anything but I didn’t give the gender angle a single thought other than questions my wife and I both had about wardrobe changes and choices. My guiding question in a movie is “does the character live there”. do I believe this person would make those choices, wear those clothes, act that way. Gal (ha) or guy, it don’t matter so long as it follows the rule.

That self sacrifice scene was powerful week. I mean its established (by the Native American chemist?) that it burns and when it does it looses its ability to kill...so just drop a grenade in that sucker! Not to mention it smacked of Captain America.

As a comics fan from my childhood through... yeah, I can honestly say the story picked so many elements from so many incarnations of Wonder Woman. Hell, the ice cream scene was taken from a recent (2009 IIRC) animated film which was set in the modern day.

There’s only so much story material to mine from when it’s been done so many times before. The difference here is that the masses mostly haven’t been exposed to the story arcs from the comics so the recycle-cycle continues.
I personally feel the DC cinematic efforts to date have fallen short of the Bruce Timm-produced Batman, Superman, and Justice League animated television series, but I was also glad to finally see WW get a big screen feature.

I liked it. I thought it was one of the best DC movies I’ve ever seen. Marvel universe is still better than DC universe.
