Link to FP article . At first I was hoping they’d replace the C7 with another front engined vette and move it down market while still selling the more expensive C8. But then I realized that the new, cheaper, front engined ‘vette would then compete with the Camaro, so it probably won’t happen. :(

850 HP and 720 torques... What is there to discuss?

I’m more interested in the Cadillacs that use the Corvette running gear because sedan.

Hopefully the mid-engined car comes in under a new moniker as it is pretty much an entirely new direction. Only problem is it can’t be a Cadillac halo car (see XLR) and at the same time, the Corvette brand brings heritage and recognition.

Perhaps the C8 will go against the “big boys” of the supercar world and there will still be a front-engine fighter/sports car for people with lighter wallets. As long as there will be a manual and N/A Corvette, all will be right in the world. But I fear that will ending sooner than I’d like..

I guess it all comes down to what the C8 is gonna cost. I think it’ll have to be cheaper than the cars it competes against, since that’s GM’s thing. But the question will be if it’s expensive enough to leave from for a C7 replacement.

Money, because this will surely be more expensive than the C7. Although it’s GM so who knows. Maybe it’ll just replace the Z06 and stuff and they’ll keep the Grand Sport.

Plus it doesn’t look like it’ll have pushrods!

Wagons are nice, but I want a trunk to lock things in, out of sight.

That is an excellent point because the high-end Vette is cheaper than the high-end Cadillac that uses its running gear. One of the Vette’s big draws is that it starts at something like $60k.

Since it will be be compared against other mid-engined supercars, it will have no problem being down in price. Chevy is known for getting the most performance out of the lowest price so I’m not concerned there as that has been the mission with the Corvette for some time. I just hope it puts the new homologation special aka Ford GT in its place while being half the cost. Exciting times, no doubt.

1. Continue the addition of #TechnologyandStuff

2. Decide whether to continue competing against American muscle or step into the mid-engine sports car market.

Most likely GM will continue with the typical FR Corvette because that is making them money and it would be dumb to leave that. I bet a mid-engine Corvette will come out as it’s own “sub-brand” like the Corvette Daytona or something, but it would be a fierce uphill battle not just with the other mid-engine exotics, but with their target market going, “We don’t want this European socialist mid-engine crap.”

Meanwhile, Chevy missed the boat again and forgot to make the SS ZL1.

that’s why cargo covers exist on wagons.

I bought one of those for my Versa. Yes, they help. But I like a trunk. Matter of taste...

Hot take: I want the Corvette to stay front engined.

I do too, but I won’t mind if they make a mid engined one, as long as it doesn’t replace the front engined one.

I think if they make a mid-engined anything, they should name it something else.

Like “Cadillac Something” and then keep the front engine, budget friendly Corvette.
