DC has been in their special place for awhile now. Their TV shows aren’t bad, but damn they have no idea how to make a movieverse work.

Holy crap. Marvel’s got it going on. We just saw Justice League and Ragnarok. JL was good, but DC is just trying too hard. Marvel hit their stride almost from the beginning.

And I really like Black Widow’s new hairdo.

Like, two Avengers at least are gonna die. My money is on Cap and Iron Man. Also, Vision is super dead.

someone needs to die. You can’t go against Thanos and not have some casualties

Haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time, this looks like it’s going to be amazing.

Oh yeah. Vision has just been a placeholder waiting for death. You can’t just walk around and expect to fight Thanos with an Infinity Stone in your noggin.

I too imagine Iron Man to go. Maybe they keep Thor around. It would be kind of amusing to me though that a dude in a super suit could die yet someone like Black Widow or Hawkeye could be okay. I mean, I like both characters, but they’re not indestructible or anything.

I like DC more than Marvel, solely because they put out less movies.

Enough with superhero movies already! They are strangling resources from people who make movies with new stories.

It’s not only superhero movies doing that, it’s the blockbuster franchise industrial complex driven by the ready availability of so much more content to everyone with an internet connection.

The studios are convinced the only way to get people to come to a theater is to give them some kind of unique LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT WE’RE BLOWING UP experience, or some existing intellectual property with a built-in audience.

They’re not necessarily wrong. 10-15 years ago, I would often decide I just wanted to go see a movie to get out of the house and pick whatever seemed mildly interesting at the theater. I saw a lot of random-ass, not always good movies that way.

Now, I have so much crap I can watch on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon that I only go to movies if there’s some specific compelling reason I want to see something in the theater.

I’m sure many people out there feel the same.

I get what you’re saying.

But I’m tired of the same shit, different box explosion theory of deciding what movies to make. There was some balance between making an effort to tell a new or different story that’s so good that you make money and the obvious concept-milking, merchandise and royalty churning cash grabs. That balance has gone in the favor of money.

And these moves are very formulaic.

Superhero emerges, does cool shit.

Villain presents himself, does something bad and has grand plan.

Superhero tries to stop him, almost loses.

Superhero starts winning.

Ups and downs in fight.

Superhero defeats villian.

Hints of villian still being alive and/or new villian being created.

And to serve the same formula in as many different combinations of heros and villains possible, the industry’s become a poor google search recommendation machine.

Avengers......

Avengers Ultron?

Avengers Infinititty whore?

Avengers New millennium?

Avengers Cosmos?

And oh, Spiderman was already in his late 20s. Lets make him young again and change the origin story. And add him to the Avengers millennium.

They already created a whole new set of X-Men.

Rinse and repeat. Ad nauseum.

No thanks.
