Kinja'd!!!

Made up a bit of a paint booth by stapling polythene sheet to the frame of the garage. Lighting’s crap and it’s a bir cramped but it works :)

That’s one coat of epoxy primer over the whole car (hopefully!), two coats on the chassis and underside, and a first coat of colour on the chassis and underside too.

Plan is to do colour and gloss on the underside and interior so I can build up the suspension and bits to get it on its wheels, and then do the filling on the body panels while it’s on its wheels :)

Didn’t realize that was the end color - or if I did, I’d forgotten. Right when I was considering dropping the idea of multicolor on the Ranchero and going back green myself. It’s funny how awkward rough welded boxes look in body tones - seen it on Landy bulkheads.

Of course, may be painting the Galaxie before the Ranchero, with it topping my bodywork schedule of late and Ranchero delays.

Good to see your progress mate!

For some reason I was thinking the Spit6 would be/remain red, but I’m sure this colour will work great as well.

Thanks man :) yeah for someone who owns two red cars already I’m actually not that keen on it as a colour! The Citroen gets a pass because it’s hilarious that such a sluggish clattery diesel is bright red, and the Jag is a nice deep colour.

Much prefer greens and blues, with the occasional 70s Leyland burnt yellow thrown in where appropriate ;)

Yeah it’s got me slightly concerned for the welding that will be visible, although there will be filler hopefully smoothing it out.

What was the multicolour you were planning? You know I don’t think I’ve asked you about colours for the Ranchero before...

It’s odd how green it looks on this photo. I think it’s because the primer was a beigey-yellow and coated the plastic sheeting, meaning the light took on a yellowy tint moving it slightly more to the green end of the spectrum. It’s definitely more of a blue-green than a green-blue under natural light.

Ooh! Maybe it’ll be one of those cool colours that looks completely different under different lighting. Never seen it in the metal before now :)

That makes sense. Greens and blues are among my favourite colours too, so I completely get your sentiment.

With the fillet down the side of the Ranchero, one possible choice was the light blue so often seen on old Ford trucks with white down the fillet and possibly a dark blue cap to the cab. Potentially a color split on either side of the fillet with light blue for fillet and lower half. There were a couple of different ideas I was weighing.

Ooh nice :) yeah that would look great, but would require a fair bit more masking.

Another cool idea could be a cream with a green fillet down the middle, mimicking those old touring car Falcons :)

Paint is just useless dead weight. I thought you’d be going with the Silberpfeil look.

Hah, if I didn’t live in the isle of damp I’d consider it ;)

Every time you sanded off the surface rust, you’d be lightening it further. :)

Exactly :) who needs floors anyway?

Really, I should just go for one of those things for toddlers you hang in doorways attached to a tubular steel chassis ;)
