Whenever I hear US and NATO officials saying how safe they feel because of how their Eastern flank members, Poland and Romania, can stand against Russia, I’m like, dude wuuut?

Kinja'd!!!

I mean we’re selling those countries antique F16 planes, to stop Russian Sukhois ?

Lol.

Kinja'd!!!

Let’s just hope war doesn’t start, because we will have to bail those fuckers out.

Say what now? The Romanian F-16 A/BM may be ex-Portuguese craft, and being vintage 1987 they are a bit long in the tooth, but the Polish Falcons are Block 52+ , the same model as flown by the USAF, and are barely ten years old.

Of course, training and maintenance will always decide in an engagement, as always.

An AMRAAM doesn’t care who’d win in a dogfight.

Realistically though, we would of course have to help them, but the concern is much more one of quantity than of quality. An F-16 is definitely a threat to a Flanker, but Russia has the numbers to overwhelm the Eastern European countries regardless.

Happily for them, the whole idea behind collective defense is that you don’t have to be stronger than everyone else individually, just as a group. Poland might take a beating, it would not take long at all for them to be reinforced.

Those Polish F-16s would wipe the floor with the older Su-27s, and are nearly on par with the more modern Su-35, which Russia only has about 75 (and given Russian readiness rates, they can only deploy a dozen or so at any time).

I mean, what are they going to say?

“Yeah we’re totally fucked if the Russians try anything. Or we would be, if we didn’t have enough nukes in a single submarine to level every inhabited inch of Russia.”

Edit: Also, the Sukhois pictured are strike fighters and would likely get their asses handed to them by F-16's.

At the present time the Russian air force is in many ways 10-20 years behind the west in widespread adoption of guided munitions.

Is it still a threat? Yes.

A major limitation to russia is its poor forward supply logistics as seen in Syria.

The problem with Russias Air Force is their lack of flying hours available to keep up the training. Polish pilots are hell bent on their training and ability to fly and fight, if you were envolved or seen what goes on over in Poland you would understand. More than obvious you really don’t know what you are talking about.

The F-16 may look the same on the outside but it is on an ever-changing upgrade program that keeps its radar and armaments ahead of game. The Polish F-16 and the Polish pilots are ready to take the war to Russia.

Read up on what Lockheed actually is doing.
