I use battery saver so my phone can make it through the day. I work in an area where coverage is less than optimal and can aid in draining the battery since the apps take forever to update.

the arena itself is marvelous. you can actually get around the concourses between periods and after the game; no more shoulder-to-shoulder and nose-to-tail shuffling. if it’s daylight out, the clear roof around half of the concourse feels like it’s open to the outside. no more trough pissers in the men’s rooms (thank god) and the scoreboard is impressive. Too bad the current state of the team makes it hard to justify the ticket and concession prices.
and no, the goal horn is still synth over the speakers. I don’t think there’s much they can do; the light-up ceiling and the enormous centerhung display doesn’t give them really any good place to put the horns. Plus, they’re really old Buell marine horns and aren’t that easy to come by. I found a set on eBay a while back, and they’re pretty weathered.

It was inevitable, really. Teams that spent like crazy in the ‘90s have had all of their top stars age out and retire; look how bad New Jersey and Colorado are too. Plus, I don’t know if Holland can work under a salary cap and w/o Mr. I’s checkbook. The contracts he signed guys like Abdelkader and (especially) Sheahan are nonsensical for how non-productive they’ve been. At least they unloaded Sheahan but I don’t know if he’s still a cap hit to the team.

yeah, the horn situation sucks. they claim it’s a “recording” of the ones from Joe Louis, but I call BS. I went to the opening pre-season game and could tell it was fake the first time they sounded it.

IIRC Sheahan trade didn’t have any retained salary. Ab’s deal makes me scratch my head and I agree, I don’t think Holland can recreated what he did in the past with the cap in place and we’ll be saddled with his bad contracts for a while because nobody is going to take Ab’s contract.
