Wednesday afternoon, just before Thanksgiving, there was a crash not too far from where I live. A 22yo male in a Jeep Patriot crossed the centerline and struck a 50yo female driving a Volvo C30 nearly head-on.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

While the Jeep driver and his 19yo passenger sustained minor injuries, the Volvo driver’s were more severe.

We found out the day after Thanksgiving she was a teacher at one of the elementary schools on the other side of town from the one my daughter(s) attend(ed).

We found out tonight she passed away from her injuries.

I am sad for her, her family, her students and colleagues, and angry. Angry at the situation, angry at the driver who crossed the centerline, angry that although we don’t know WHY it happened yet, I’m sure there is a lot of fault and blame to put on him and I hope he is punished...

Sorry Oppo I just had to vent my feelings.

It’s actually pretty scary that the most dangerous thing any of us do, every day, is get in our cars. Any moment, one lapse in concentration in you, or in someone else, and boom. You’re dead.

I am surprised the jeep fared better than the volvo in a crash. Just goes to show those ratings have nothing on pure bad luck.

It’s crazy how things like this can happen so suddenly. A friend of mine and his wife, and their 6 week old daughter were in the car, and he crossed the center line. Both he and his wife were killed. No one really knows why he was on the wrong side of the road when he crested a hill but he hit a truck head on. It’s terrible for everyone involved - no one wins in an accident like that.

That’s that whole SUV vs car argument—unfortunately brought into the limelight here.

Here in Austin just a week or so ago somebody in a jeep crossed the median, hit a car head on and killed two people. Follow up article states he was drunk.

I think his sister ended up taking her in. This was a few years ago, and I didn’t really know much of his family other than him.

She might not have been wearing a seatbelt, while the Jeep’s occupants were. Sadly, in the small town this happened in, I’m sure the details will never get released unless you know a guy that knows a guy who was telling stories at the bar...

At least she didn’t end up in foster care.

One good thing did come out of it - he was a heavy duty mechanic, and loved what he did, so they started a scholarship in his name.

Yet we still have massive retards allowed to drive who STAY ON THEIR PHONE FOR MILES. I went down to LA proper a few weeks ago and was flabbergasted at this one girl who would not get off her phone. Every time she passed us and then we caught up (moderate moving traffic) I thought, “surely you can’t still be on your phone.” But oh how I was always wrong.

Having owned a Patriot, and been thru a couple accidents in one, i can attest that of all the components that make one up, the unibody is the most robust. They are surprisingly sturdy. Its everything attached to one that falls apart.

Yep, sorry to hear the story. Reminds you that everything has risk and that people are fragile.
