Looks like Alaska added a few new touches to their livery, too - looks great!

I have a shot of the newer livery, but the light was terrible. I will see what I can do in LR.

Oh, Boeing, they killed off the 757 just at the right moment for it to fly and instead replaced it with a stretched 737.

I’m a Boeing lifer, but man they really dropped the ball on this one!

I’m a Boeing fanboi too, but I’m not thrilled with their business decisions lately. I think they are going all-in on commonality, but they have a nasty gap in their offerings right now. I’m cautiously optimistic for the 797. That could be interesting, if they don’t screw it up. Or lose their shirts to Airbus over that CSeries fiasco.

Boeing has had to make the new 737 cockpits archaic to maintain a common type rating.

Hmm, well I mean, Airbus has very little success with the a321 (I guess its range to be fair) if the new 797 proves to be a successful mid way ship I think companies will love it.

Its quite interesting seeing transition from large ass planes from the ETOPS era down to midsize planes. From hub and spoke to long skinny routes, I quite like it personally.

I’d rather land on Eagle Creek Airport than Denver Airport. I remember I could literally see the street from the parked plane, there’s nothing quite like that bliss of knowing that the airport time is over.

I thought the picture in the post was of the new livery? The turquoise line seems new, plus the detail around the engine intakes.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Its an old plane that wasn’t meant to be stretched to 180 seats!

Perhaps an interim livery of sorts? I assumed this was the new livery on this 737-890. The light was very poor at this part of the afternoon. Not a great shot.

There was no shortage of AA A321s that I saw over those three days. I stopped taking pictures of them there were so many. Far more AA 321s than 737s. The AB’s did have a very distinctive engine whine on takeoff. You didn’t even have to look up to know it was an Airbus.

But yes, it is interesting to see the paradigm shift on routes. I think Airbus is going to be eating a lot of A380s in the near future.

I thought the A321 was less popular than the 757, but a quick wikipedia search just proved me wrong!

Specially in Mexico we are going to start seeing flights going straight to other places (Monterrey, Cancun, Tijuana, Guadalajara, etc. Because we were the definition of hub and spoke, every international flight got to Mexico city and from there you caught local flights!

Yep, you’re right - I googled it, and the darker photo is of the new livery.

The detail around the intakes in the original shot is fairly new, though - I don’t think I’ve seen it before (although Alaska doesn’t have many flights to ORD, so I don’t see them that often, either).

Living in Austin, all roads lead through Dallas, at least if you are flying AA. Delta generally goes to ATL, and United goes to DFW or ORD. Or perhaps STL. But I can get a SWA flight direct to Baltimore or Richmond if I’m going east, and UAL has one direct flight per day from AUS to IAD. I would definitely prefer more direct flights!

Yeah, what we should focus on now is how that impacts cost to airlines and the enviroment (based on scale)

here, have a Sukhoi Superjet crosswind landing for being such a good sport!

Interjet! I saw this A320 also, a new airline for me. I got a better photo of it the next day, and I haven’t looked at that roll yet.

That particular A320 is tuned to use BioKerosene, which is great!

Its great airline, imagine if you combined southwest with Jet blue and you’ve got yourself interjet!

its actually my favorite Mexican airline

Not so much the type rating but appeasing important customers (read: WN) in the interest of keeping training costs low. The 717 has a vastly different cockpit than the DC-9 on which it’s based, yet the two manage to maintain a common type rating. Don’t expect EICAS, either, until WN is buying something other than 737s, once again for commonality purposes. The Max is a bit of a throwback, but nothing’s going to change until there is a complete and total redesign of the aircraft.

Even with the NG there was a setting for the avionics to match the look of the steam gauges present in WN’s -300 and -500 fleet. But once WN saw the financial benefits of letting the computers do much of the flying they eventually adopted this type of flying and brought an end to those wild and infamous “Southwest-style” hand-flown approaches that used to buzz my old place by LAX, with their inevitable off-airport excursions that results from this style of flying...
