!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A few weeks ago I got a chance to fling an AZ-1 around on some Ontario back roads. This is a car I’ve wanted to drive for ages and I came away impressed. I’m not in the video but I shot and edited it myself and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Firstly, if you’re 5'10" or taller, you’re not driving this thing. There’s just no way. I wear a size 9 shoe and I was on the ragged edge of fitting my feet in the pedal box with my shoes on. Any bigger than than and you’ll need to drive in socks. This thing is TINY.
Firstly, this engine, a 660 cc I3 turbo sounds like nothing I’ve ever piloted. It has this high-pitched tinny whistle like it was powered by a large kazoo. It’s seriously smile inducing.
The steering is fast and nervous at speed. Sneezing makes lane changes happen. It also turns about 5,400 rpm on the highway and it isn’t exactly quiet. All the same, it was a ton of fun. Want to buy it? You can for $17k CDN.

Well, great - you’ve just ruined the possibility of me driving one of my dream cars. Then again, if I have my combat boots on I have a hard time driving my Mazda5, so I assumed that I was never going to get into an AZ-1 unless I was stripped down and greased up...

Well I’m between 5'10" and 5'11 and my Autozam arrives in January. I’m also pretty stocky so this will be interesting. Good thing I just ordered some Vibram 5 Finger shoes!

I’ve also been driving small mazdas all of my adult life, so I should be ok with the small pedal box. But who knows... It might end up for sale if I can’t fit.

By the time I can afford one, they’ll probably be too expensive with all the Americans snapping them up, even though I’d fit well (maybe 5'4").
I’ve also heard that RHD cars are around twice as expensive to insure in Ontario, any idea?

Nice little vid, and I do love the car.
However, my inner pedant tells me that it really should wear a yellow Japanese plate, to signify it’s K-car-ness. The dude in the video probably just doesn’t like the colour combo.

Yup. RHD cars are psycho to insure in Ontario if you are a male under 30. Chiefly because that’s who primarily buys them.
