I’m so dumb. I bought those 1951 plates and they are for ham radio operators and they still use those plates!! So unless I become a freaking ham radio operator with that handle I can’t use them!! SO I have to sell them and get another set..... The little 1952 tags are ok though.... grumble...

?

So if you were a ‘ham-radio’ operator, your callsign would be whiskey-six-whiskey-charlie-echo?

and

There are licence plates for ‘ham-radio’ operators?

Sorry, I’m in the U.K. We get a strict licence plate of:-

Kinja'd!!!

We get a choice of flags or not to have a flag on the left of the licence plate.

Yes. Depending on what state you’re in, you can order any number of special-interest number plates. For example, in Michigan:

Not an exhaustive listing. We do also have an amateur radio plate available which requires a special application process, and will only be granted if you’re a licensed operator with and assigned call sign.

Just the whole having licence plates for a ‘ham-radio’ operator and that being your callsign is something I’ve never heard of.

We are the only E.U. country that doesn’t have to have the Euro badge on our licence plates but we must put a U.K. badge or sticker on our licence plate or car rear if we intend to drive in the E.U.

I had this on the last car.

Our country is as big as your entire continent. Chances are slim you’ll be driving in another country unless you happen to live near the Canadian or Mexican borders.

Plus in most states, the license plate is issued to a person and does not stay with the car, so denoting the age would be pointless. Likewise including the region of issuance; vehicle registrations are one big database handled by the Secretary of State so who really cares if the plate was issued in Lansing or Ecorse?

My gr a ndfather had his amateur radio license. Grandma had a fit when he used the big oak tree in the back yard as a mast for his antenna. My uncle inherited the equipment when grandpa passed. Now my uncle is licensed and is running around with giant antennas on his truck.

I thought about getting licensed. My primary interest is long-range FPV flight and the ham bands are great for transmitting over long distances. Before I could implement a plan, the FAA stepped in with a bunch of new rules, making the legality of such a setup somewhat questionable.

That UK badge is so much better looking than the EU country decal for plates on the Continent.

In the South such as Florida or Tennessee, the county of issuance will appear on the bottom of the plate. It does matter to them. Thank God it doesn’t in MI, I want Great Lakes on the bottom of the plates again instead of a website...make sure no one tries to go to michigan.org while driving. Place great lakes on the plates again or my favorite from the 60s...Water-Winter Wonderland.

Many of those rules were struck down in Federal Court recently, give FPV Flight another shot.

I looked and it is a big process...

The long-range rules? I already fly LOS and FPV within the guidelines. It’s the long-range FPV that I’d like to try. Some of my work would benefit from long-range capabilities, but I’d rather get my feet wet on the hobby side first.

It looks like the long range rules are still in effect...the smaller model aircraft ones were the ones that were amended....

The E.U. decal isn’t compulsory either, it’s a sort of standard that you can change or omit. You can have the union flag, flag or St. David, St. Patrick, St. Andrew, St. George, etc... as long as it says U.K. or G.B. along with it.

It really isn’t that hard getting the license. Just study the book and take the test. I failed by 1 question last time I took the test :(

I don’t have time for that, it’s bad enough I have to do recertification for rigging! I’ll sell the plates and get some others in the future, I have the little 52 tags, I can get new black plates until then.

The Ebay seller has other plates and I paid a little more and I’m getting some I can use. SO I am not upset anymore!
