This is a tool for an actual pipe fitter who would use it professionally. If you’re swinging a 4’ wrench all day, the lightweight aluminum will be pretty worth it. This ain’t no handyman tool.

I want that too! I have a very small RIGID brand pipe wrench and I have used it many times. It’s one of those “when you need it YOU REALLY NEED IT” kind of tools. It’d be so awesome to have that huge aluminum version! But WOW! That’s expensive!

I said “no” once to a free 6ft long torque wrench. It was for semi trucks. The technical college I was going to cancelled their diesel program and had tools left over. One of the teachers that I had used to also teach the diesel program. I at the time had a part time servicing semi trucks. The teacher asked me if we needed the 6ft wrench at my job. I said no. I AM IDIOT! I should have said yes and kept it for myself! It went to I think 5000 ft-lbs!!!

I’ve got a couple ridged pipe wrenches, and they are fantastic. There’s nothing like a good hand tool. This wrench would be so far overkill for me and for most, but if you were a professional pipe fitter, I bet it’s worth every penny.

Reminds me of a mild prank I pulled on a couple of new coworkers. Well, not really a prank, but it surprised them. I’d have a guy hold out his hands, and I would put an aluminum pipe wrench (about 14") in his left hand, while putting a regular iron one of the same size in his right hand. “Feels about the same, right?” “Yeah.” “Okay, now switch hands.”
I took a chance that they were going to be right-handed, and it payed off. Their dominant hand was stronger, so they didn’t notice the difference in weight until they swapped sides. All of a sudden one of the tools was substantially heavier. Magic!

We had one of those at the hydraulic shop I used to turn wrenches for in an earlier life. It was an awesome tool, and it primarily lived it’s life on our service truck. We also had a 60" steel one that lived in the shop. We primarily used that 60" one to do things that would’ve caused an OSHA guy to have a stroke.

Years ago, I bought one of each because I needed one and they were cheap as a pair. Though mine are kincrome branded. I use each of them rarely but no big pipe has resisted their charms.
I bought a set of metric and imperial open-ended spanners from the same place...smallest one is 1.25" and I think the biggest is 2.5". Almost never used them but they look impressive!

I bought one...
Let me paint you a picture. I have a stubborn clean out trap screw that won’t budge.. it’s in the basement ceiling so it’s awkward to get to and all the beams are in the way and all.
I say, I need something with a little more leverage. I ordered a 48" pipe wrench. It arrived. It is so frigging heavy, my wife cursed my name for an hour that she was trying to drag it into the house. I finally got home... and its... 48" - like... 4 feet. It YUGE.
I still have it. I did not end up using it for the stubborn screw. I got a chain wrench which was easier and lighter to use. But I still have it. My excuse - If a train I am on breaks down, and I need to swap out one of those wheels, I’ll use my 4 foot pipe wrench... Presently it’s a nice statue in my garage

In dog dish news: I’ve decided that I hate the rims on Rusty, but I don’t care that much for dog dishes either. So I’m considering going with a full wheel cover:
15x7 steel wheels are not hard to find nor expensive. What do you think?
They’re the wrong era and the wrong look. Your old Roadmaster is more the sort of aesthetic I’m after. And if it runs great and has the only true split inline-six exhaust within a hundred miles, that’s great too.
Windex took the chalk right off the blue paint. Also, I drove it around the neighborhood a bit this morning. It’s ready to drive around more, but I need to get some electrical happening.

I like those rims, my ‘98 S-10 had them ... but they are all wrong for Rusty. I’m not the type to crap on another man’s choices, but I’m glad you came to that conclusion.
If this were my van, I’d be all over the dog dishes. Those wheel covers would be great too. Whatever you decide to dress them with, 15x7 steelies are definitely where its at on this van.

My choice on those S-10 rims was clear: $150 the set, and replace the 14-inchers that were so rusty that tires wouldn’t seat on them. Here’s what I have to work with:
I believe they were white to begin with and painted later. All of the catalog pics I can find show a chrome dog dish. With the full wheel covers, we’d still have the steel rims, but more of a family car look, which is what this vehicle was to begin with. Old Dude’s wife hauled the kids around in it. She passed away and he decided to get rid of the van. Hub caps either way, and I think the full wheel covers just look dressier.

Very cool! I had a laugh at the two places they brag about rust resistance though.
As far as the wheels, I was surprised that every single van in that pamphlet had dog dish hubcaps.
