This is why you don’t do it. Fun fact, though: in Georgia, it’s technically legal if you pass one car at a time. Passing on the right is permitted as long as there is sufficient pavement for two or more lanes of traffic. The shoulder IS pavement, and therefore WOULD count as sufficient for a lane. The only other restriction is that you can only pass someone who is obstructing traffic; in this case, traffic is at a near standstill, so nobody is obstructing anyone. And also it happened in Tennessee. But still, if you have a good lawyer and/or you enjoy fighting in court, you CAN get away with passing on the shoulder in Georgia.

Here in Mexico we take it to our own devices...

When traffic is clogging up, some assholes (specially taxi drivers and rich assholes with private security) decide to use the shoulder as they wish.

So the people actually waiting in line simply occupy enough space of the shoulder so that they don’t pass, and everyone cheers.

Who says eye for an eye doesn’t work?

LOL- I see people doing this around Chicago every so often on I294. They’re usually going a lot faster than this guy, but nice to see one pay the price!

One of my main memories of driving in Hotlanta is people flying by on the shoulder while regular lanes are jammed. Even with the relatively smooth sparkly granite road surfaces, where traffic flies when not jammed, the driving experience there isn’t entirely first world.
