CR-V stands for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. EDIT: That may have just been a John Davisism. I think its actually Compact Recreation Vehicle....Which seems more likely.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Thats (made up) name suites its current market segment well.

I liked the 1st gen, even though it was an inferior RAV4. The table still works great!

Just a word of warning on the video, there is a lot more middle age thigh around 4 minutes in them you might be expecting or wanting. Or whatever I don’t judge.

The Rav4 is cooler because it was available as a convertible :o)

If it is Compact Recreational Vehical, they need to change the name. The last two generations have been neither Compact, nor Recreational.

Too bad about the door opening backwards for most of the world. I think a lot of Japanese cars failed to reverse them, like the Lexus GX. Ideally the door is supposed to shield you slightly from passing traffic while pulled over on the shoulder.

I have a 2006, I was surprised as hell to find the picnic table in the back.

Is it such an issue? It’s not really much of a shield, and how often are you really pulled over on a busy shoulder, trying to access the back of your car?

True enough, I just see it as an oversight. Odd that we’re not even allowed to drive RHD cars but other RHD-based options still remain. But I’m a stickler for ergonomics — I don’t even like driver’s side fuel doors.

It might not be an oversight, but a decision to save costs. If they’d fixed it the car would’ve definitely cost more to build.

I like Japanese cars, in Australia that means everything is built for our market :) But everyone I know, when getting in something European, has trouble with the reversed wiper/indicator stalks.

I always thought the wipers/indicators were fixed. The several times I’ve driven in the UK, the hardest part I remember (apart from the mostly-new road signage and constant roundabouts) was getting used to the gearshift being on my left.

They’re just reversed in Euro cars. Indicator should be right of the steering wheel, that’s the way I likes it!

I’ve actually never driven a LHD car or a car in a LHD market. But there are plenty of roundabouts in Australia. I think the thin roads in the UK would bug me out. You can see it on Harry’s Garage on Youtube - every time he passes someone they pull over to let him past. As if proper two-lane roads were such a breakthrough!
