Taking it exploring around Oahu

Kinja'd!!!

The odometer says 36,000 miles, but I disagree. Maybe it’s just miata traits but the brakes feel a little squishy and the steering feels overboosted. Interior isn’t too bad, steering wheel is a bit more worn than I’d expect at that mileage. It’s a convertible and we’re on an island, so I can’t complain too much.

The worst part? It’s an automatic.

It’s a rental so of course it is an automatic. It enough people drive stick to justify stocking a manual on the lot.

I’m so glad you didn’t get the convertible Mustang like everyone else. Being from Oahu Mustang convertibles are just tourist rental cars to me, I can’t see them any other way. Usually driven by a family with matching ABC aloha shirts.....

Very nice! I searched long and hard for a place with an ND rental on Maui over the summer.

I find that brake squishiness is directly related to whoever services (read:bleeds) them last.

Hit up the Tetsuo Harano Tunnels on the H-3 with the top down and try to keep it in 2nd gear as long as possible before shifting!

Sounds about right for an aging rental.

Did you check Turo to see if you could’ve gotten a manual?

There weren’t any on Turo that I saw. I think there were 2 or 3 manual cars available but they were either uninteresting or more expensive than I wanted to spend

I totally understand that. Mustangs are EVERYWHERE. Strange to think mine can almost feel special back home

It’s turo though, so it’s not on a lot

The islands have classic American cars but there are a lot of Japanese cars if you haven’t noticed. Tacoma is king, lots of Nissans too.

Ok, you need to drive Tantalus road (Near Manoa Valley, For driving you want to drive it during the day/ for a view of the city at night drive it on a Friday night (if I remember right), and if you time it right you can watch the hotel fireworks), and then there’s Old Kalanianaole Rd over by Waimanalo to take when you are looping the island.
And rentals on Oahu will be totally crapped by 36,000 miles.

Also, I think it is whale season so if you go to Makapu’u (maybe hike the trail) you might see some. Maybe other places too, but when I lived in Hawaii Kai that was one of the better places with a view.
