When new, this was an expensive car. However, after 13 years on the road this Japanese premium sedan has depreciated to the point at which a college freshman can theoretically afford it. Due to the college strike, I was able to really drive it and get a feel for it. After about 3000 km, here are some of my thoughts.

This thing makes me not miss the Crown Vic at all.

It’s gonna be so boring driving an automatic when I go back to BC for Christmas.

Dual-mass flywheels still feel weird.

The Bose stereo is still pretty great, although an aux jack would be nice.

Mileage really isn’t bad on the highway. And because most of my driving is highway anyway, I’ve been averaging 9.3 L/100km in mixed driving which handily beats the government ratings by quite a bit. Granted, most of that has to do with the fairly flat terrain, my primarily highway driving and my avid use of cruise control.

It’s so great when a car doesn’t require anything more than general maintenance, and even better when it doesn’t try to kill you.

The seats are kinda meh. If I have one complaint about the car, that’s it.

Overall, I’m really happy with it. 10/10 would recommend to an enthusiast on a budget.

Dual-mass fly wheels can die in eternal hell.

Get a grom box, it’ll fix the no aux issue.

Also, does your CD player work? I had mine repaired once and it broke right after.

Years ago I drove a friend’s z car because he got shot drunk after a breakup. That vq6 engine is just terrible in the NVH department.

I’ll have to look into a grom box, but mix CDs are so cheap that I’m not really tempted right now. All six slots work great!

Oh come on, it’s not that bad (says the guy who had to commute with open cats for a week in high school because his midpipe was getting shipped up from Cali).

My g35 was very smooth/quiet before the valves started making noise. I started it when it was already on more than once. Maybe the z has less sound deadening? Did he have a modified exhaust? That can really make it sound noisier depending on the quality of part and install.

Btw I still have a brand new Ronal midpipe . $50 if anyone wants it. :) I’m in Seattle area. Also have set of black 2005 side skirts for 2003 to 2006 sedans which need painted but in good nick for $80.

DMF’s suck!

wait till you need a new clutch, then you’ll be up for a new flywheel at the same time (usually)

So a few months ago I bought an 89 Corvette 6 speed. The first time I got back into my Grand Marquis after driving the Corvette for almost 2 weeks, a huge smile came back to my face. It just feels so different that I couldn’t help but smile like a kid to be back in the car that was my first. You may not miss the Crown Victoria now, but if you got back in, the good times would come back.

I’m looking at Z1's packages for next year. A lightened SMF looks really tasty, and a more durable clutch might be nice.

I don’t know if I would. I can’t exactly say the same about the Cutlass or the C1500.
