Carrera 4S next to my borrowed Civic Hybrid 5M ... how lucky is the person who owns this that someone who knows what the car is, me, parked (carefully) next to them.

I know the Honda is silver but it looks so beige.

Have a large whiskey and send me the bill.

Nobody should have to suffer that sober.

How do you find the Civic’s fuel economy? I’ve got a regular Civic, and have been averaging somewhere around 29 mpg, mostly city driving.

It’s silver blue (and fading) in fact, but for free basic transportation it’s just fine.

As long as it’s free.

((sounds like it was loaned from a family member, please tell them I’m sorry for disparaging their vehicle)).

It’s got 260K on it, and the batteries crapped out at about 200. My buddy bought it as a favor, and it’s supposed to have been “converted” to a regular setup. The stop/start goes in and out, but as I said, it’s free. If I had to guess, the confused little powertrain is probably doing about 25MPG.

From my best buddy since elementary school, but he has a sense of humor about it (and a fleet of commercial vehicles). He even tells me not to bother refilling it, but I do at least that.

I legitimately thought you did not own a car

That Civic is like the quintessential Maryland Car. My parents lived there for 15+ years and the number of commuter beaters was mind boggling. The irony of their leaving one of the wealthiest parts of the country and coming to Alabama was their constant comments about how nice all the houses and cars are here. Low taxes will do that. They live here now...

Just curious, but why did you back into the spot? Looks like a standard suburb parking lot.

Note the word “borrowed” ...

It’s a Sheraton ... just backed in to match up w/ the 911. This hotel didn’t even want the tag number, so I doubt they cared how I parked. Also, leaving early and rushing to get to a subway, then a train (I’ll drop the car at a mutually-agreed spot) so backing in eliminates one more area for concern.

Oh. That would be a bigly important word for me to read next time.

Montgomery County, where I grew up (largely) is expensive, but offers great schools, infrastructure, and amenities. Howard Co. similar.

Sold my ‘97 SHO in 2001 just before I move to NYC and that was that. Thought briefly about keeping it, but a garage here was $400 (at least) a month in my area. Now my ride is either rented or borrowed.

Agreed. Road quality, General infrastructure, states parks, schools — all excellent. My fam mostly lived in Howard County. This is our first year not going up to visit (since they moved). I miss all the historical stuff most of all. The mid-Atlantic is like the epicenter of more US history than anywhere else.

Interesting. For a while I was hunting for something more fuel efficient, and was looking at a second-generation Honda Insight. I was worried about the battery holding up, but it sounds like they actually fared well - probably better than the Civic Hybrid.

Indeed it is ... and I live in NYC and have yet to see Ellis Island. Shame on me.

I think this car wasn’t cared for during its first 200K. That said, 5 speed hybrids are rare, and I’d see nothing wrong with picking one up. As for the 2nd gen Insight 4 doors, I rented one once and thought it was not substantial enough, despite being well built.

Not unusual. I have coworkers in the SF bay are for 10+ years who have never seen the Redwoods or Yosemite. I guess “getting close to nature” is stepping over a dozen urine streaks on the sidewalk on the way to work ;)

I have another friend who has been in DC for 18 months, but has never been to a single Smithsonian. She’s 3 Metro stops away from the National Mall.

The Freer has lots of Whistler, and Air & Space has lots of flying machines. She should go.
