I had to stand on the brakes a couple years ago in the fintail, on 405, to avoid a poorly driven construction truck that decided to get on the road without looking. I guess I know my heart can take some stress, as I felt like I was going to explode. Locked it up, got just a little squirrely, but I kept it in line. If I had a dashcam in the car, I would have sent it in to the owner and gone wild with it online.

Because of my job, I drive about 25k miles a year, 99% of it being on 405, 5, and 90. I pretty much nearly get hit on a daily basis. It gets old.

Amusingly enough, I had to go up and down 405 yesterday, and it was a breeze - having the hilariously poorly thought out and corrupt toll lanes open to all made it palatable.

I could believe it. One only has to wonder what kind of bribe was passed by a camera/toll operator to get the idea going. Lots of private profit being made with the 405 tolling. And it’ll help traffic just as much as the 520 tolls.

These will be easier and easier to slip under our noses because the kinds of people flooding the Seattle-metro area (and now north Snohomish) are less likely to care about a toll due to their rising income. Seems to be a simple formula: improve your city by replacing your bothersome populace with new people with more money.
The gentrification of the Everett waterfront has begun. High-end condos, lodging, and shopping center set to be up and running in 2018. My view on my walk at the Grand Avenue park is now of a giant crane.

I often have doubts that incomes are keeping pace with the insane cost of living issues like tolls, commutes, and stupid housing prices. Everyone can’t be a techbro, offshore money launderer, or Californicator - can they? I hope the “Lazy B” is giving some nice bonuses to cover these costs. I think a lot of people are using home equity.
I have a friend who bought a 70s era condo on Grand about a year ago, I wonder how he will fare.

Sounds like Everett is going to end up like everywhere else, maybe just a little later and slightly cheaper. I am pretty sure in west Bellevue, more than half of detached residential transactions are to offshore buyers, and don’t even ask where the money comes from for some of the recent condo and apartment buildings.
I think there should at the very least be a significant tax on foreign real estate transactions (like Vancouver, but maybe thrice as much) along with other measures.
