The Mid-engine Corvette we should have gotten instead of the front engined C5... from what I understand, that was the reason this car was developed, to be the 5th gen Corvette... only GM’s top brass didn’t have the balls to actually go through with it, and approve it for production. Lamers.

I’ve read of mid-rear-engine Corvettes in Road & Track and in Car and Driver since 1978.

The corvette is a front engined car. I like this thing but replacing any gen of vette with a mid engined car will create uproar

Rumor has it, and I really wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be true, is that GM is going to spin Corvette off into it’s own brand. Seems possible, as when you consider the different models available now, and then add in a mid-engine halo car, there are enough cars for a stand alone Corvette brand...

Corvette Stingray

Corvette Grand Sport

Corvette Z06

Corvette ZR1

Corvette Zora (mid engine)

This would allow GM to have both front mid engine (which is what we have now) and rear mid engine Corvettes. There’s a 99.9999999% chance that the mid engine prototype that’s been seen for the last year is a new Corvette... I suspect that the ZR1's new front fascia design is a transitionary design that is shared with the new mid engine ‘Vette that’s coming, as if you look closely at the spy shots of the mid engine car, you can see hints of the same front fascia design that’s on the ZR1.

So, I’m pretty confident that the new top dog Corvette is going to have a mid engine... the only question I really have is: Are they going to spin Corvette off into it’s own brand so they can keep making a front mid engine Corvette as well?

We’ll just have to wait and see...

But in reality, anyone who knows their Corvette history knows that the Corvette was destined to become a rear mid engine car... Zora Arkus-Duntov (“Father of the Corvette”) wanted it to go rear mid engine... The CERV program basically existed to research rear mid engine technology for a future Corvette... and from some things I’ve read, the CERV III was developed with the intention of it becoming the 5th Gen Corvette... though GM top brass nixed it.

Personally, I hope the C8 is rear mid engine... It’d be the realization of what Zora Arkus-Duntov always wanted... and if a rear mid engine Corvette was ok with him, it’s ok with me.

I don’t thing having 4 different trim levels is enough to constitute a new brand, particularly after what happened with SRT. I also don’t think Chev will risk screwing with the Corvette brand, I think Zora will be a different model.

If we ever see it. You gave a very high percentage, but people have thought it was coming for 40 years.

People have thought that for 40 years... but during those 40 years, there wasn’t an actual pre-production mid engine prototype driving around clearly undergoing testing... today, there is. And imho, this prototype almost definitely has to be a Corvette... Its roof and windshield are as far as I can tell identical to the roof and windshield of the current Corvette... additionally, I’m fairly certain that underneath that camouflage is a front fascia almost identical to the one on the ZR1.

Also, who’s to say that if Corvette is spun off of Chevrolet, they won’t add other models? From what I understand, GM has been toying with the idea of making a new car along the same lines as the Pontiac Solstice, but such a car wouldn’t really fit in at any current brand... but it would work as a “baby ‘Vette” so to speak... which suddenly makes me realize how awesome that could be.

But like I said, we’ll see...

Maybe there was, but there weren’t cameras in everybody’s hands and Youtube on everyone’s phones.

I want to see as many Corvettes as possible, but I’m not sure I believe at this stage.
