It’s a contradiction in terms but sometimes a tasty one. I don’t know what they put in vegan chorizo (“vague Mexican spices, Soylent Green, mystery texturizers, ???, lol idk”) but it’s kind of delicious.

Aren’t we back to dehydrated water with that?

My wife once prepared chili for an extended family gathering and use soy TVP instead of the meat — without telling anyone — and everyone raved about it. I had some taco soup yesterday with TVP and we ate a vegan Wellington yesterday for dinner that was entirely delicious. We also had carne asada...

If God didn’t want man to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat? (Bumper sticker)

The vegan sausage wasn’t bad at all...

Happy Thanksgiving Stef, if that’s your thing.

It irks me these meat free products say they are chicken style, turkey style, beef style, etc... like meat free meatballs, or meat free beef style burgers.

You want meat free, don’t eat meat, why want a vegetable made to taste of meat. I just find that bit hypocritical.

Also when vegans and vegetarians try to make you stop eating meat by banging on, ‘meat is murder’, etc... ‘you shouldn’t eat meat’, etc...

Well vegetables are living also so go away.

You eat your food, I’ll eat my food, lets get on with our lives and not both each other about it.

I will probably receive a warning for offending some vegan moderator.

Much of what drives food products, I believe, is how folks are accustomed to seeing their food prepared. I commented above about how my wife made a delicious pot of chili at a family gathering and used soy TVP instead of meat. She even took out some and put it in a smaller pot for the vegans, when the contents of both pots were identical. Everyone raved about it.

To me, good food is good food.

Good food is good food.

I guess it annoys me more as when I flat shared with a mate of mine who was a student union rep, we often had students round and the number of young students that would ramble at me for eating a steak while I was watching tv or point out how animals are killed or ask if I knew how they were killed (I’d always answer yes, and explain how I worked in a pig factory in Holland). So I’m probably having mental flashbacks

I’ve three vegan colleagues who get annoyed by Quorn products and say, ‘if they don’t want to eat meat, why eat something made to taste of meat’, and Im like, ‘I know right, what’s that all about?’.

Bumper sticker: If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?

Thing about college is, at that age, young people are casting about for cares. Enjoy your steak whilst they figure out what they wanna be about.

If you can’t tell the difference between a plant and an animal, then I’m not sure what to say.

Nonetheless, some of us like the taste of meat, on the rare occasions we’ve had it, so we go for an alternative that suits our beliefs. It’s not quantum physics.

I can tell the difference from an animal and a plant, but when being told by some young vegetarian that has seen a tv programme on how chickens are sexed and the males discarded and that meat is murder and why I shouldn’t eat meat because they don’t, I point out everything we eat was at one point a living thing and that I don’t tell them what they should eat.

It’s not quantum physics but to be told meat is murder and made to feel guilty about how it’s raised and how some abuse the animals but then they say they like the look and taste of meat of it, so eat soya made to replace it.

To each their own but I don’t walk up to a vegetarian saying to eat meat and that meat free is hypocritical on times I’ve seen someone eat a meat free burger.

To each their own.

Animals are conscious and are capable of feeling, both mentally and physically. Plants do not. Other animals are much more similar to us than they are to a carrot sticking out of the ground.

I still don’t get the hypocrisy argument though.

I understand we can seem pushy at times but we do have a bit of an agenda, that’s just the way it is, we care about something and you guys don’t, and we’re trying to get you to care. Nothing wrong with that.

Scientific studies have found plants do feel and react to light, sound and to being pulled from the ground and cut.

While animals are more similar to humans, on a genetic level such as the chimpanzees 96%, cats 90%, mice 85%, cows 80% and chickens 60% we also share a 60% similarity to bananas.

I care about animals because they taste great.

If I were a vegetarian/vegan, I’d try harder to eat things that specifically don’t resemble any meat products - eating veggie burger patties, vegetarian hot dogs, etc. just shows that you long for the tastiness of meat products at least a little, but you’re instead settling for a compromise.

I’d at least be proud of eating grilled mushrooms, tofu prepared as tofu, etc. most of the time. Can’t say always, though - I’ve heard that pulled jackfruit is nearly identical to pulled pork.
