My friend posted this for his dad who is looking for a weekend cruiser (his dad loves Oldsmobiles) and his dad joked about the lack of power.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I commented with a link to Chevy crate engines and a friend of my friend commented how it was boring. I explained that yes it’s an obvious choice but hard to argue with the reliability and power combination of an LS swap.
He replied in full seriousness
“Here are some engines [I have] rebuilt. They can all go on a 1,000 Mile tour, trouble-free.”
WTF? Since when is 1,000 miles reliable? I had to just let it go, I can’t argue with that lack of awareness.
Has anyone else met such confident stupidity?

These used to be $500 cars because they were heavy rust prone unreliable underpowered gas guzzlers .
When did they become valuable and why?
When did they have a 260 v8? Could this be a 6 cylinder?

260 was the base v8 in these cars, a step above the v6.
Hardly an exciting option. Mostly 2 barrel carbs and maybe 130 hp? Whoo hoo.

Well if the rear bumper hasn’t rusted out and fallen off, that makes it a unicorn of sorts.
Back in the late 80s, there were a LOT of these running around Chicago with either no rear bumper or a 2x6 wooden bumper.

Well of course the VIN won’t return an AutoCheck for you - AutoCheck works for vehicles with a 17-digit VIN and manufactured after 1981, as stated right in the listing.

Well, the 5-speed is genuinely rare - only paired with the terribly gutless 260 V8 that had awful drivability when new due to untested emission controls and poorly-retarded timing to pass emissions.
I’m among those that consider any car facelifted to add rectangular headlights was made worse by them, and this is closer to the terrible end of the spectrum.
