I think I figured out why I’m low on energy

Going from living at home, to living on my own on another continent has been quite the big change, but I have been enjoying it so far.

It went perfectly fine when the weather was nice and the pressure at university was low. However, now the weather has changed and the pressure has increased because my internship is ending in a few weeks time, it just feels like I don’t have any energy left, which makes it hard to do work a lot of the time.

Now, I think I figured out what the cause is: I’m not good in taking care of myself when I have a lot of work to do. Generally speaking I’m not the kindest person to myself, but normally my mother making sure I eat well enough, and supplying fresh meals makes sure I have enough energy. I try to eat enough, but I just can’t work out what enough is, and have lost about 10 kg over the last 2,5 months as a result.

I think I’m going to think about what and how much to eat even more now, as I hope that solves it.

Anyhow, if you made it this far in this completely incoherent (and probably not interesting) post, have an Alpine A110 race car:

Proper diet makes a big difference. Make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep too.

That’s the funny thing, on average I’m getting more sleep here than I did back home, as my commute is shorter, so I get up later. But you’re right, sleep and diet are very important, and I need to be more serious about them.

Yep me is engineer (well sort of, I’ve got a BSc in Electrical Engineering, and am now working on my MSc)

I thought living in Canada, one would get fatter with all the donuts, poutine and tree blood.

But seriously, take the time to cook yourself some proper meals, if only on the weekends. Plus that way you get leftovers for the next day’s lunch.

That means we should meet for lunch before you leave.

Exercise, too. It makes you feel better in a making you feel like garbage kind of way.

Haha, one would expect that to be the case.

Yeah, I try to cook once a week, for like 4 days, but I think I’m undersizing my portions. Should probably increase portion size, and cook more often, as leftovers sound like a better lunch than my sandwiches.

Sounds like a good idea. I’ve never really liked exercising, but must say I like the feeling I used to have afterwards.

You don’t even have to do it to be able to bench press a car. Lift some weights you’re comfortable with, go for a job, and drag friends along to make it a social thing.

I really have to get into exercising to take better care of myself, but with 4 jobs, I just can’t find the time and don’t have the energy to do it by the time I get home :/

Glad you aren’t tired of us Canadians quite yet! :P

Yeah, 4 jobs seems a bit much, hope you find time/energy for that soon.

Nope, not yet, haha. I will probably return for a few weeks next year, as I will carry on working on the same project when I get home.

Something battery (management) related, though that is all I can say.

It better be graphene batteries so we can finally make hugely viable range on electric cars :P

Sadly no, though what I do also impacts range, and should be easily transferable to other chemistries.

If you can train your palate to enjoy fruit and vegetables on a regular, preferably daily basis, the rest of your diet will pretty much take care of itself in my experience.

Also exercise as others have said. Even if it’s just a brisk walk through somewhere nice to walk through.

All the best mate.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to work more fruit and vegetables into my diet.
