Yeah, exchange rates have been horrible since trump’s been in office.

Its not like he’s gonna make America great,he’s just making American investors uncertain. Here in Mexico it blew us to hell and back.

This is a picture of the USD/MXN exchange rate on the first days of November of 2016, we lost 16% of our currency’s value after Trump was elected

Our dollar has been down a few years before Trump was even in office. Our dollar was doing good then the US economy bounced back & our dollar went back to normal.

I honestly don’t understand Canada.

I mean, I love it and I wish I could live there (wanna do my PhD there) but I can’t understand it, normally when a country has a high standard of living (as Canada does) its more expensive to visit it as a tourist. But, in my experience,Canada is leagues cheaper than the US as a traveler, and frankly you crazy people have Tim Hortons and... never mind.. Tim Hortons already makes Canada exponentially better.

Canada is not cheap to live in, everything costs more. Timmy’s is owned by the same company that owns Burger King, so the only Canadian thing is the name. School for international students is very expensive. Visas, rent, tution, books, etc.

Is it more expensive than the US to live in?

I only write this as a tourist, i’ve gone to both countries and at least as a tourist Canada is cheaper.

Yup. Ontario has the highest (on avg) insurance premiums in North America.

That’s higher than the prices for a new Avalon Hybrid, which looks better.

Also remember that we get to add another 13% to that in Ontario because of taxes.

Well, I mean, I know Canada is expensive, but its not as expensive as the US!

There’s this great webpage that explains costs of living and the numbers speak for themselves. I don’t think insurance quotes are great examples of cost of living because they are so complex and include a lot of variables, it’s probably a coincidence that Ontario has the most expensive insurance quotes.

Really you can’t make very specific averages because theres a lot of things to calculate. I could say that, because the 15D highway is about 29 cents (USD) per mile, living in Mexico City is more expensive than living in Orange County because the SR-73 highway is only 25 cents per mile, but it obviously isn’t.

I think the best one is the Big Mac index, and even it is flawed because each environment is different.

I don’t know if it’s cheaper than the States, because really, it depends where you are (Toronto, Montreal, and especially Vancouver are incredibly expensive). However, as I’m living in the prairies and making more than minimum wage, as well as splitting rent with my girlfriend, I’m able to afford rent, groceries for both of us, and still put money towards savings. So your mileage may vary.

Yeah, it totally has to be apples to apples, if you compare NYC with Vancouver, vancouver is about 30% cheaper on average

I’m often puzzled on why people insist in living in Toronto or Vancouver given how expensive it is. (Lethbridge here - it’s not as expensive as living in Calgary, but is big enough to have all the decent stores).

I 100% understand. I lived in Toronto until I went to university, and then moved back for a year. Toronto sucks.
