Yeah, NA is really awesome. I think the Camaro SS 1LE has some disagreements with your photos caption though!

Headline, yes.

Caption, no.

Body, unfortunately :’(

And as a bonus, I’m thankful for Audi keeping the V10 in the R8.

I had no idea the speedo in the M3 goes to 200mph even if it can’t reach that it still is fun to see

It can disagree all it wants but it doesn’t make it right!

I think the top speed of the M3 is right around 187, could be wrong. It is still neat to see, I think all M cars after the E60 have 200 mph speedos.

Audi and Lamborghini are the only two supercar manufacturers I can think of off the top of my head that are keeping the NA motor alive. Therefore, I currently lust after the R8 and the Lamborghini lineup more than any other super car brand.

Nice! And really I think I would have just as much adrenaline pumpting at 187mph as I would at 200mph.

I wish there was a place where I could max it. I’m not really interested in going to jail or killing someone, so I can’t really do it on the interstate.

Almost all of Lexus?

edit: they only made one supercar but at least it was NA, as for the rest of their lineup, they only have one turbo in the bunch.

Lexus isn’t a bad example they have two sports cars that have NA engines. Which might mean more of their sports car lineup have NA engines than any other car company besides Chevy and Lamborghini. Not sure though.

As someone with the most NA of NA cars(S2000), I’m fully meh on NA. I like the savagery of a nice turbo car.

The high rpm’s are cool, but the car is a dog until it gets on the big lobe.

The Yamaha V8 is really an underrated motor because it’s a Lexus body.

Turbos are savage no doubt but the sound doesn’t stir the soul in the same way an NA car does. IMHO

The LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 are naturally aspirated, too.

Lower in the lineup, the 911 GT3 is NA as well, still.

Kinja'd!!! "bhtooefr" (bhtooefr)
11/22/2017 at 12:06, STARS: 0

There’s something to be said for keeping it simple, stupid... and the rush to turbos hasn’t actually helped real-world fuel economy much, if at all, due to how the tiny turbo engines behave under load.

Yamaha gets too much credit for that motor, its primarily designed in house but Yamaha can build smaller runs of motors so they have them do it. There is some engineering work they do but the motors are primarily Toyota.

Yamaha V8? Do you mean V10 for the LFA? Or did they help produce a V8 for Lexus?

Turbo can be a lot of fun in a silly way. Mazdaspeed3 was bonkers silly and the rush was a blast. Viper V10 was fast as all get out, but it wasn’t as goofy. I would have gladly gotten an Evora S, but orange and budget were more important than a supercharger for me.

Agree! I just can’t seem to get excited about turbos... Maybe superchargers but still. I’d rather a 6 cyl than a comparable boosted 4 cyl. Absolutely the V8 over a boosted 6. Long live N/A!! (A man can dream.)

11/22/2017 at 14:16, STARS: 1

You need NA + displacement.

Old school V8s give all the grunt of a turbo with none of the delay.

That much torque coming on instantly with a prod of your foot is much more brutal than a boost hit of a turbo, and it’s much more controllable too.

The “silly vs serious” argument has nothing to do with aspiration. I have yet to drive a car as fun as my old ‘86 Mustang GT, its low end torque made it stupidly easy to spin the crappy tires.

But the Legacy GT I have now has more power and torque, but it’s far too serious about keeping traction and much more difficult to control. It’s pretty darn quick, but far less silly.

To me it does. When a turbo kicks in it’s a hoot, but in a different way than an NA throwing you back in the seat. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but can’t I add variables to an argument like silly and serious?

Even though the MINI and GTI are both turbo and much faster, I do quite enjoy driving the TR6 when I can. I Love the immediate analog throttle response (also pornograpic inline 6 cyl. Exhaust sounds)

You can certainly have preferences, I personally hate the lag between jabbing the throttle and when the power comes on. (Yes, even modern turbos have a little lag).

But I completely agree that some cars feel silly and some feel serious, I just don’t agree that turbos are a requirement to make them silly.
