Today is the day Andres Bonifacio, a revolutionary hero in the Philippines, is born. Today is also the day Kinja’s user blogs Whitenoise , Hackerspace , Groupthink , Powder Room , Odeck , Tay , Oppo , Backtalk , Clashtalk , CrossTalk , Gawrker , and The Salad Bowl convene in a cross-thread line no other.

For this theme, show me what you’re proud of! Big things, little things, country wide or something more personal. I give you the license to brag.

Old rig, but proud that I built something that could withstand two cards past their stock clock speeds.

For the win indeed.

Does it feel like infinite power?

I’m proud of myself (some days). Moved 3000 kilometres and got my life somewhat together before going broke.

I think it’s too much power for you. I think you should turn it over to me.

Money is overrated.

Ok well that’s bullshit, but it looks good on-screen.

All I have for today is that I paid my bills and took out my garbage.

I’m proud I got a full room for the talk I was planning. I’m kinda worried about next week’s talk, but one at a time.

These are two of the most important things you can do.

I got a raise I didn’t even ask for last month, because I am such a badass.

Hmm... things I’m actually proud of are hard to come by, but here’s a recent minor accomplishment: I squished some Pathfinder classes together to create two new hybrid classes.

One is basically the Dwarven Kool-Aid Man (Dwarven ancestry not required), ‘officially’ called the Cannonball, a heavy-armor unarmed fighter with parts of Barbarian (Rage) and Brawler (Flurry, extra feats), meant to just barrel directly through a few walls to get to the squishy mage and then snap his pencil neck: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZkAMzeovRoRiBdlPA6BR6VR_ydNtOSPfThsHwA_u1tc/edit?usp=sharing

The other is a completely different take on a Monk/Barbarian hybrid, the Asura, who uses Ki powers outside of Rage and Rage powers within it, switching back and forth as circumstances change, until they eventually learn to be fully coherent even during their rage: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/185ey5Sbw_We14nuHcLaVkuC2If0rHKMuamBkzFC5lfs/edit?usp=sharing

They should both be fully playable, though I’m not sure if they’re balanced or more powerful than other hybrid classes. I haven’t had the chance to playtest either one because I just wrote them up from scratch starting last week, after being inspired by an after-game conversation with the party members of a PF campaign.

Well he’s pretty badass alright. But surely you must see that even *he* can’t handle the kind of power we’re talking about. : )

Right? They’re all “the economy is picking up so...” and I was just sitting there stonefaced like, “I’m not gonna tell ’em.”

Yeah, Pathfinder system. It’s sort of a derivative/rebalancing of Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition, which was one of the most popular systems but has become rather long in the tooth over the years.

Wanna know what I’m proud of? I’m proud that I not only understood the title without the English subtitle, but I also know of the man. I’m proud that in the last year I’ve paid off 90% of my personal credit card debt (so.. a lot ) which means when I return to the Philippines to see my wife (after 18 months apart) we will have money to spend. I’m proud of writing 30k in November, even though I didn’t reach the 50k goal of NaNoWriMo. I’m proud of the choices I am making, financially, and the risk I took several years ago that has led to a very easy life and an even easier life in the next few years. I’m proud of passing most of my classes, for improving my diet and maintaining my “I don’t need a car” stance, and enjoying most of my days at work. I’m proud that I beat more games in 2017 than in any other year, proud that I purchased my first novel written by and set in my wife’s country (Dream Jungle. You know, one needs learn of one’s significant other’s culture as adequately as possible). I am proud that my wife and I finally submitted paperwork for her IR2.

Also? I’m proud of my wife. Mr. Wheelerguy, you and I have “met” many times here in the Kinjaverse... let me tell you about my wife. She lives in Cavite. When I first met her she was too afraid to travel anywhere except her school and the Mall of Asia. I spent 14 months with her, urging her to stand up on her own, take care of herself and not rely on “a man” to handle everything. After all, how was I supposed to talk to the people who didn’t speak English in the far off places where even Tagalog wasn’t in the top three? How could I “take care of her” while I was playing the part of an OFW (though, American). Do you know what she did? She traveled to Antipolo by herself, after figuring out how to get there, on her own. Prior to that, she arranged for her and her friend to travel to Baguio. She knew what she was doing. She was in charge of that trip and she got her and her friend there and back safely while also traveling within and without the city limits. I am proud of my wife. That was no small thing compared to how afraid she was of moving about in her own country three years ago.

Pare ...you and your wife are quite brilliant. If anything, your response is the one I’m waiting for.

This is the kind of positive story that most of us need. Salamat , dude.
