Cabin filter needs to be removed to add washer fluid on this car. Apparently washer fluid is superfluous on a Black.

Owner wanted head bolts replaced preventatively and insisted on doing head gaskets at the same time. Original head bolts on the first couple years of these were a known issue, they would break at the bolt head and relieve tension on the gasket. So coolant and oil would mix, or coolant would go into a cylinder.

Blinker fluid flush actually. The blinker fluid has an external cooler and the pump for it mounts under the intake manifold.

Kinja'd!!! "AMGtech - now with more recalls!" (amgtech)
11/21/2017 at 16:42, STARS: 2

Yeah. Though no actual failure yet. He just wanted it done to prevent a future issue. Three were looking pretty rough, cams just starting to show a bit of wear, and two cam adjusters have a bit of play. So he’s buying all new cams, lifters, and adjusters to compliment the head gasket and bolt replacement.

You’re not supposed to ask that! 12k. The really aren’t that bad, just beginning to wear. They could probably go many more tens of thousands of miles before having any noticable symptoms. But early warning signs are there and he wants to take care of it before it’s a problem. Unfortunately it’s a known issue on early engines.

So I’m sure you’ve answered this a million times on here, but how is the reliability on the later 6.2L’s? My wife keeps bugging me about replacing my manual crossover an automatic sedan and for some reason my brain keeps interpreting that as E63. I think 2010 was he last year for before the turbo. I can certainly afford the car, but I’m not so sure I can (or want to) afford repairs if things go out.

2010-2011 E63 are awesome, in every way, and very reliable (not just for an AMG). Those would be my personal choice. Those both have updated engines. I haven’t really seen any issues on the updated engines. RPM made a post in here showing the differences between early and late. Biggest costs involved with owning one will be brakes and tires. I’ll give you a more in depth run down if you get serious about one, and even check service history if you’re really serious and get me a VIN.

Thanks! Not serious yet, but they’ve always tempted me. I’ve been a fan of MB V8’s since my aunt took 16 year old me for a ride in her brand new black on black W220 S430 in 2000. Ever since that and reading a C&D article about the W210 E55 around the same time I’ve always wanted a big V8 Benz.
