I’m just hoping whomever is elected in Canada next won’t pull the same crap, we still have strong net-neutrality rules as of today.

what do you expect? The people in charge are mostly Boomers, a generation of possessive, spoiled brats. And they’re regressing to their “mine, mine, mine!” phase.

“Instead, the F.C.C. would simply require internet service providers to be transparent about their practices so that consumers can buy the service plan that’s best for them and entrepreneurs and other small businesses can have the technical information they need to innovate.”

In theory this works really well. Except for areas that have one ISP.

I really don’t understand how this has limited innovation and all the other bullshit reasons they’re giving.

Net Neutrality ISN’T a political issue to begin with.

It’s about who gets profit and by how much.

seriously, we settled this years ago. How does this even become a thing again. This has nothing to do with which side you are on, but has a LOT to do with who is lining your pockets. the ONLY justification for action against Net Neutrality is that some people have been bought.

This doesn’t work well in theory or in practice, one or ten ISP’s. It’s worse no matter how you slice it.

But to most it will suck imperceptibly, and that’s why no one cares enough. And a bunch of assholes are getting away with something they shouldn’t.

I think Mexico forewent the net neutrality provisions, its not spoken much about here... but still. A lack of net neutrality in the country that has some of the brighest digital minds and the self proclaimed tech capital... well... thats gonna be a horrible thing for everyone. American exceptionalism is now american monopolistic imperialism, but within its borders... gmmmm

True, but almost every Silicon Valley billion dollar company have sexual harassment, underemployment inconsistent with cost of living, and/or everyday, racism bordering on feeling like Charlottesville.

Musk and Tesla have all three.

How is having good rulings bad? this person is aggressively stupid.

I guess that in some sort of switch removing net-neutrality could help the consumer get a better deal (if you only want to browse facebook and whatsapp on your phone you get a cheaper plan) but otherwise I feel like its mostly negative

Uh, if it’s governed by laws and or regulatory agencies, which are processes or offices that are, either directly, or indirectly, influenced by the politicians who helped form, shape, or staff these offices, then the abandonment of Net Neutrality by a regulatory agency has made a position which should be apolitical, extremely political.

This shit is whack, yo.

This isn’t even just about profit. This is about control. The internet needs to be open. Should there be channels and processes to shut down clearly illegal content (whether through trace, blocks, seizures, etc)? Of course. But in the regulated world we are currently in, those exist.

By allowing ISP to choose how to prioritize, they could censor information, deny access, and shape things that I trust NO ONE with. For this reason, a free and open internet is vital .
