Someone was never taught how to pop start a car.

That, or the starter isn’t really the issue - but this might be a bargain if you can just push start it.

Love to know what lurks under that cover, especially on the passenger side.

Yeah, and that would be better than saying it needs to be towed.

Yeah, I can imagine it’s a little rubber stopper on the clutch. $3 part. Pop starting is easy on a Honda.

What I’m thinking, but it’s not near the top of my list, so I’ll probably never find out.

Look at me I know how to take care of a car is what they’re trying to say.

Look at me I like scratching up the paint is what they’re really saying.

Yep. If I lived in Dallas I’d go look at it.

Yeah, if I was local and looking for a flip or a cheap DD, I’d look into this, but I’m none of the above.

Seller is either lying about the starter or an idiot who doesn’t know that push starting is a thing.

Yep, my BMW is easy to start that way, too - I’ve done it by myself sitting in the driver’s seat on a gently sloped driveway (short gearing FTW!)

I mean, it’s cheap and runs, but I’m looking for something my sis can drive back to Indy. If she tells me to go look at it, I will. But I’ll need someone to help me start and drive it.

Kinja'd!!! "WilliamsSW" (williamssw)
11/21/2017 at 13:56, STARS: 1

Well, I’d help if I could, but it’s a bit far for me...

Seems like a bit of a gamble to drive to Indy soon, unless you went through a post-purchase inspection and service (which probably wouldn’t be big $).

I think they do it because it implies that it’s a special car, because only special cars are kept under covers.

You mean you can’t spend the time just before the holidays to fly 1200 miles to help someone you’ve never met drive a sketchy car that won’t start over desolate stretches of highway? What kind of friend are you anyway? :P

Yeah, I’d have to put it through a proper service and inspection first. The only reason I’m still looking down here is that there are not too many good options up in the Indy area. although we are checking out one option in Ohio that SVTyler suggested.

Special cars are garaged in my book, but yeah that may be it. Paranoid me thinks they’re likely hiding something. I really need to have more faith in the goodness of human nature at this time of year.

See, that actually sounds like fun - maybe in part because it *is* impossible, given family responsibilities, but still...

College me probably would have jumped in a car with a buddy and driven the 1,200 miles down to Texas, just for giggles.

It never would have crossed my mind to fly - way out of my price range.

You would repent of that decision after driving that stretch. It’s like Northern Indiana, but longer and even more boring.

If you drove down, how would you help drive the car back up? See, it’s getting more complicated, and you haven’t even started yet. That’s the sucky thing about being a grownup. It gets harder to ignore these little details.

I went to college in Champaign, Illinois. I know boring highways, believe me.

And that’s why I said I’d bring a buddy with me! Drive down, the two of us drive back, and dropping a car in Indy isn’t even far out of our way! We used to pile into a car to drive to Indy just to get White Castle. We were not smart.

And driving a block to go to White Castle isn’t a great decision, let alone an hour and a half.

This is why most such trips are taken at 1 a.m. while either high or drunk. Or so I’ve heard.

Anyway, if I find something really worth coming down to get, My dad or my brother will bring my sister down to get it. I’m just sorry I can’t drive a stick so I could deliver it. I’m flying up with my daughter after Christmas anyway.

I’ve heard that, too - and yes, that was about the time those White Castle runs occurred, too. However, I was lucky enough to have 1 buddy who didn’t drink at all, and he was usually the instigator of those trips.

I would think the main benefit of getting a car by you would be the lack of rust- - otherwise, the selection ought to be similar?

When I do a CL search, there is much more down here than up there, even though the population sizes are similar. I do think it may be down, at least in part, to the lack of rust. Maybe things just survive longer here.
