Always wanted one of these, just think it would be a great companion to the Corvette because they both have similar styling. Maybe I wouldn’t buy this exact one, however.

Yeah that would make an excellent companion to the ‘vette. Stick something small-displacement and high revving into it so you’ve got the big bruiser Corvette and the highly-strung screamer GT :) good combo that

I’m still dreaming of getting a matching year ‘Vette to go with the Camaro. Unfortunately the WAF is low for this plan.

Cool idea! I’d love to wedge a Suzuki G13b in there. Those are 1.3L 130 hp and rev to 7,700 rpm.

Your Camaro is a 68 as I recall, right?

Yeah that’d be perfect :) that or a bike engine of some sort, but the Suzuki engine would probably be better with just a smidge more torque.

Why stop at 7700?

It’s already been mentioned on here, but a GT with an engine swap would be pretty cool. However, as small as the car is, choices are limited. Sounds like some have had success with a 3.4 from a Camaro.

Damn, I’d love to have an Opel GT. Not this one, necessarily, but one.

I love the Opel GT! The way the headlights open is great:

And they are fully mechanical! (As far as I know)

Surely some kind of modern 4-cylinder should fit? The original engine was up to 1.9 liters large, so fitting something like a somewhat modern 2.0 liter in there should be plausible, right? Or a motorcycle engine.

I was very seriously thinking of getting one, the main dude for parts is here in CA and I was going to put the aluminum Buick V8 in it. The guy even had some project cars around. But the 240Z had the hatch area for the dog. That was the deal breaker. I’m happy in the end though, but I would like a Conrero Opel clone.

I have long thought one of these with a turbo 13b would be a lot of fun....alas I lack the funds or fabrication skills required to make such a thing happen.

Absolutely. Sounds like several guys put Miata drivetrains in them. With the Opel being RWD it would be much easier to pull from a RWD car. BRZ maybe?

But, as far as trying to get gobs of power from a relatively tame engine without much work, the forums I read pointed towards the 3.4. Old enough to not have much for electronics, decent fitment, and you can use the trans without much work.
