Like most of my ideas it’s probably crap for some reason or another but I’ll let you guys be the judge of that.

Instead of installing a hidden kill switch that any career car theif would know to look for and identify, disguise it as a factory button. If your car has blank buttons, find out what that button should be, order it on eBay, and wire that as your kill switch. No would-be thief would think they need to hit the TCS or TPMS button to start the car.

Better yet, if it’s a momentary switch (and it’s on the other side of the steering wheel from the key) you could wire it up so that you have to be both turning the key and holding the button to engage the starter.

I love that idea, and it would work fine in an older car with a simpler ignition switch system (and simpler switches). I wonder if it would create problems with modern car electronics that are all CAN bus and not just 12v power running everywhere. Like, in all my modern cars, the buttons don’t depress and stay that way, they’re all “momentary” even though you don’t have to hold them down to keep the function on/off - i.e. heated seats, traction control.

But if you were to, for example, take a fuse out that controls something important like “starter circuit” and run a wire from that to the switch you’re talking about, (then back to the fuse panel obviously, with fuse inline) I don’t see why, in theory, that wouldn’t work - so long as the button can be made to stay “on” so to speak.

Bad idea imo. Previous owner of mine had wired a toggle to the fuel pump safety switch, so that had to be toggled on aswell. Other car had a start button that they also fucked up nicely by needing you to both turn key and press button...

Its been done. The shop I had install mine said they used to make it the cigarette lighter. But cars don’t have them anymore.
