Someone done fucked up something if 4 came in with lunched transmissions, because that box is the same as the Ford 6F35. and as far as I know those aren’t crapping themselves left and right.

we’ve replaced about 30 in the last few months, they’re just a shit auto.

i think the gen 3 version seems to be ok, early ones are a case of not IF you need a trans but just a matter of when.

That’s nothing, the 4t65 strapped to my wife’s Buick Lacrosse Super isn’t even rated to handle the torque the engine puts out. It’s rated max torque is 280 lbs-ft, the V8 cranks out 323 lbs-ft. Apparently the Super/Impala SS/Monte Carol SS/Grand Prix GXP quadruplets usually eat their first transmission in 20-50k miles then, if you keep getting the GM rebuilt one eat a transmission every 20k or so miles after that. Her’s is just starting to slip and the dealer is amazed she got to 100k on it. Gotta love bean counters winning arguments with engineers.

Just for shits and giggles I looked up the rated torque for the transmission BMW put in my ZHP. It is rated to 273 lbs-ft, my car only puts out 222.

That looks very simular to the ZF9 that’s in the Pilot, Pacifica, Cherokee, Acuras, etc. They all have problems. I think there’s even a class action law suit in the works.

4T60-E from the Grand Prix was terrible too.

Whenever mine got warm it’d shift like someone dropped a hammer into the trans.

Huh, I hadn’t realized that GM was still using the Hydra-Matic name, and applying it to transverse units. I guess I haven’t been paying attention.

Isn’t that the unit they co-developed with Ford a while back?
