This skinny kid^ is trying to pack on some muscle in the next few years; no better motivation like the occasional 1-rep-max on bench and hex deadlift.

135 and 230. Not bad for a 131 lb toothpick.

Strength training goes against adding lightness.

Working in a restaurant has me doing lots of lifting. 80-90lb boxes of brisket (x3), 60-70lb boxes for pork butts (x4), 50lb boxes of potatoes (x6), & other heavy boxes. So my upper body is quite built.

Bodybuilding and handbalancing primarily, with everything from yoga to rock climbing to martial arts as supplemental stuff.

Find something you like! There are tons of ways to increase strength. If you love the weight room, awesome. If not, there are plenty of other options!

Oppo strength training

1) Power steering delete

2) If no manual transmission vehicle. Sell and acquire one or manual swap.

3) Do all vehicular maintenance yourself, but without penetrating oil or torch.

EAT. no seriously. You are probably over estimating the calories you eat. Get the app called my fitness pal and set it for “gain one pound a week” if you can’t hit it for the day, drink milk and eat peanut butter till you do. Underestimate what you eat. The advice used to be GOMAD: gallon of milk a day. You may not need to go that extreme but you need to EAT. Lots of protien and fats. Also take creatine. It works.

It terms of programming, look up the book “Starting Strength”by mark rippetoe. It’s made for skinny guys looking to gain strength. I hope you like squatting. Most important thing is you need to be adding weight every session. To lift more you need to lift more.

Other axioms: without steroids you can’t get big and shredded at the same time. Get big first, then cut away some fat.

EAT.

The other most important part of this is consistency. You’ll make gains as long as your consistent. Also add weight.

EAT.

In about 6 month your lifts will stall out, and you’ll have tto move to a different pprogram, but youll be much more knowledgeable.

Dont hurt yourself.

EAT. A big meal is about 1000 calories. You’ll probably be eating 3 of those a day. That’s why you need the milk peanut butter and maybe whey protien, otherwise it will be hard. Come on skelly. RATTLE RATTLE EAT MORE CATTLE.

I’m coming down the other direction, trying to lose a hundred lbs, so I have the opposite struggle.

In the northeast #3 is a recipe for snapped bolts. Strength isn’t the issue.

You gotta snap’em then drill them out with a hand crank drill.

I can confirm this as I’ve been w/o Powersteering for a couple years now. But I’d like to add that the car should be as heavy as possible. And low offset wheels or spacers should be added to make the scrub radius worse.

What AesthiticsInMotion said, find something you like. I also recommend finding a trainer/coach. I am into powerlifting and I am seeing a coach once a month and it’s made a huge difference. Learn the motions of the big lifts so you don’t hurt yourself. EAT RIGHT! SLEEP!

Hey welcome other skinny kid! I started where you are but way weaker back in August. I really enjoy the nSuns 5/3/1 program from reddit. It has def been working but I struggle with taking in enough calories to keep gaining at this rate. Also if you are serious, start forgetting about max. Build a solid base and core so you can continue gaining muscle fast. It seems like the number one thing that delays people (including me) are injuries.

^^ This. Rippetoe’s book did a LOT for my strength training. Just changing my diet to MOAR PROTEIN rocketed me from 120 lbs to 140 lbs in a year. A few years later, I attacked the gym in a 2-on-1-off cycle while doing GOMAD. I finished the summer at 175 lbs, and lifting incredibly heavy. I stopped GOMAD once work started again (I’m a teacher), and the excess fat from the gains melted away as I continued lifting. (I was putting back 4500-5000 kcals a day for about two months.) I’ve hovered around 160 lbs lean since then, about a decade. At my peak (before age and injuries took their toll), I was squatting 250, deadlifting 300, pressing 115, benching 185, and doing pull-ups in sets of 8. (I prefer pull-ups to bent-over rows.)

GOMAD seems extreme, but it is inexpensive and crazy effective, especially for skinny guys who have a hard time putting on muscle mass. 128 grams of protein, 2200+ calories, about 200g of carbs, for $3-4 dollars? That’s muscle gaining magic right there. You don’t even need to prepare it - just drink a huge glass of it with each meal/supplement session. If you’re fueling 5-6 times a day, you can polish off the gallon super easy. And then most of your meals don’t need to be super protein packed. They can be mostly grainy carbs, which are also pretty inexpensive and calorie dense.

EAT EAT LIFT EAT MOAR LIFT EAT EAT EAT.

And sleep, too.
