I’m ready to burn this POS and drive it off a cliff again. (Picture only partially relevant.)

Kinja'd!!!

So I replaced the passenger side UCA in about 30 minutes. Go to the other side, loosen the to bolts so they’re only finger loose. Then spend OVER A GOD DAMN HOUR loosing the bastards and they still won’t come out. On the other side that took maybe 10-15 minutes, but nope! Fuck me.

I’m going to go get some beer and ice cream.

I should’ve known it was going to be a cluster fuck. The bolts are 14mm. And those have no business being on a Honda. It’s 8,10,12,15,17,19,32mm or GTFO.

Heck, if it’s 14, what do you think of the odds that it is really 9/16"?

Bad influence here. You know, if you snap that bolt off, no problem right?

I used a saws-all to remove my end links.

Wouldn’t help. It’s the bolt you see in the picture. So then it’d be holding the UCA in and it wouldn’t have a head.

I’m fairly certain Honda uses 10 12 14 17.

They use 8s on interior stuff, I SWEAR it’s normally 15s and 17s on suspension stuff. 19 is lug nuts and I’m pretty sure crank bolt too. And then 32 is the axle nuts.

I think the Japanese standard calls for 8 10 12 14 17, and those crazy Germans call for 10 13 15 17. It’s awful. NAPA generally carries the euro standard, so if you’re in a pinch for bolts for your downpipe and the 12 broke, guess what you have a random 13 in your Japanese car.

Ignore my post on breaking it off, as disaster will follow. The integra/civic suspension I am used to has the A arm around the hanger with the bolt captured by the arm. So break it off, no problem. I see the Accord is the opposite with the arm on the middle and the theaded insert apparently part of the body, so totally different deal.

Break that bolt, disaster will follow. I would say, try an extension and see if it budges. If not, pull the strut assy and see if you can get an impact into there.

If it doesn’t cooperate, maybe time to stop by a shop and have a professional do it.

PS, sticking the closed end of a 17 mm wrench into the open end of a 14 mm is an easy way to get an extension on the 14 mm wrench.

It’s not that the bolts stuck. I got it loose and 99% of the way out. It’s just it’s not coming out all the way. Idk if it’s just a million threads per inch bolt or what. I know it’s not catching on the spring. I’ll try tomorrow and see if I can get it.

At least it isn’t an 80’s GM vehicle where sure yeah it’s metric, but it’s just conversion bolts. 5.5, 6,7,8,10,11,12,13,14,15,17,19,22 and 34, and still standard inside the engine on the PS and brake fittings.

Wait... there are sizes other than 10mm and 13mm?

Did you get the control arm bolt out?

Yep! But the bushing in the new one is crooked so it won’t go in. I literally just made a post about it. It should be up in a minute or two.

I had this a same problem on a 2004 accord. I used a hammer and socket to move the bushing insert in the correct direction to make it fit.
