Our 1990 Mini has some light surface corrosion in the drip rail by the rear window. Are there any automotive products that folks would recommend applying? I’d rather not sand and paint as that would be spendy, but I also don’t want it to get too bad. I’m thinking Zinc Chromate would do the trick.

In the long run I’m betting sanding and painting it yourself is going to be waaaaaay cheaper.

Check out some products from a company called Bilt Hamber. I use there cleaning products such as Surfex HD, Autowheels and Korrosol but there are known for there rust removal treatments for either whole areas or targeted areas.
They released a new one only last week called Atom-Mac. Which is a treatment that protects areas from corrosion.
There are quite a few with different methods and purposes so I can’t recommend a specific one for you exactly, but give them a look.
