20/32nd tread depth. Man alive. No wonder they can offer a 55,000 mile treadlife, its going to take 20,000 miles to get them to wear down to where the others start. (for reference, the new BFG KO2 starts at 15/32nds)

Also. NO MORE FREEWAY VIBRATION! I spent 2 hours at 80 mph on Saturday and it was smooth as silk!

Can also confirm they don’t mind a mud puddle or two

Tires look good! So the Grrrs and vibes have been sorted? Last I read was a motor mount- still correct?

yes...and no. The freeway vibes have been excised on account of new motor mounts and tires. There is still an unsettling vibration around town between 35-50. Im thinking its a spindle bushing. I replaced the passenger side one but the drivers is pretty old. I am going to pull it tonight and see how much play there is. I stumbled on an old mud thread that indicated that was the cause of a similar vibration for a lot of people. I have ruled out T-case, and front diff. It COULD be the driveshaft still but its pretty unlikely. My guesses are either this spindle bushing or the rear 3rd member. hoping for the former.

Nice looking tires. I let my K02s go on the trade in- it’s like having a redo.. might pick something different next time.

I like the KO2, but the fact that they don’t offer a treadlife warranty on their LT sizes AND they were $50 a tire more than these left me questioning why I would pay more. I hear good things about these, lets hope they deliver the kind of performance I got out of the duratracs.

Looks great. Purposeful. Am I crazy for not noticing earlier, how long have you had the roof racks removed?

it comes and goes. I can’t fit in my parking garage now with it on so it only goes on as needed.

We’ve got those Falken tyres available here in Oz (though none of their tyres fit either the VW or the Forester). However, there’s no treadlife warranty going for them. In fact, the only brand that does offer such a warranty is Cooper. Even then the hoops you need to jump through to maintain the warranty conditions are so onerous that it’s not worth the grief.

I was a little surprised that they offer it in ALL sizes, even E rated fatties like mine. Speaking of which, these are, somehow, smaller than my outgoing 285/75r16 Duratracs. These are 32.8 x 11.1, the Duratracs were 33.1 x 11.3. Not sure how that works, but whatever, Im enjoying that they are a little narrower because it just means more clearance under the spare.

Many tyres have the same size but measure out differently because the casings are all a bit different. It’s not quite as bad/mad as mountain bike tyres but it’s not far off it.

After 15 years, the VW is finally wearing LT rated A/T tyres in 205/70R15. I’ve never been that convinced that tread is that important in a vehicle that is not particularly capable of exploiting it (like mine) but these new tyres are something else.

Bridgestone Dueller A/T D697. They ended up being some of the cheapest tyres I was quote on. Most of the others ones I was quoted around AU$210 fitted & balanced but these came in at AU$185. Like you I’m pretty impressed with the tread depth. Bonus is that the casing has a 106 load rating (I only need 101 to be legal) so it is overbuilt for the vehicle and I won’t be testing the S speed rating either...

Very nice. I’ve come to the conclusion that in the US anyway, A good LT A/T is nearly as cheap as a P but offers so many other benefits its alsmost not worth it to look at P rated.

I mean the OE tire on my GX is a crappy dueler H/T with no mountain snowflake, no treadlife warranty and performance benefit pretty much anywhere. The hankooks I bought for it do have the mountain snowflake, they have a higher load rating, a treadlife warranty useable performance gains AND were $20 a tire cheaper. Why would I not?

Yeah have to agree with that.

The ‘OE Problem’ was/is my one concern with the Bridgestones. Their tyres that you find OE fitted are almost universally awful. Too hard, too soft, durablity of a condom...

A Nissan Patrol ute I had as a work vehicle years ago came with six 265/75R16 tyres. Not one of them lasted longer than 6,000 kilometres. Four were killed by rocks through the tread which fractured the belts, one shed much of its tread on one shoulder and the last one had a fist sized hole punched in the sidewall by a rock (so it was the only one that was legitimately murdered)

I’m on oppo infrequently and figured you may have some insight into a Land Cruiser question. I’m looking to buy an FJ62 that is very clean but one nagging issue: there’s a rattle/pinging noise in the engine. It’s not present/noticeable at idle but during acceleration you hear it. And the frequency increases with speed.

Not so much asking a diagnosis question, but would that noise concern you as a symptom for a larger issue? It drives and shifts fine. Only other issue was it needed 2 quarts of oil.

This may be pretty random but I haven’t had much luck elsewhere. Thanks for at least reading this far.
