I need something that can do 7ft-lbs (bmw valve gasket). The only reputable one I have found is an expensive craftsman. My google-fu is failing me. Any body have ideas?

That’s 84 in-lbs. Maybe you’d have better luck looking for an in-lb wrench.

As Crowmolly mentioned, torque wrenches in that range are usually measured in in-lb.

Gearwrench makes a good in/lbs wrench. I have one and I like it a lot. For a real budget wrench you might look at Capri which is sold in Amazon. I have a bigger one by them and it was just as accurate as a Snap On when checked side by side. The 1/4" 25-250 in/lbs wrench is $50.

I have one that’s adjustable between 2-16 Nm. And I bought it as a bicycle tool for quite cheaply.

They have ft-lb wrenches that go that low, but every torque wrench manual I’ve read states that it is possible for it to not click when set to the low end of the scale. So it would be best to go with a in-lb wrench. Or digital but those are generally more expensive. I’ve got a tekton 25-250ft lb wrench and its quality.

You should be able to pick up an inch pound one from an auto parts store or a Home Depot or lowes. You’ll just have to convert from ft to inch pounds

I’ve usually just winged it on anything below 20 lbs-ft. but an in-lbs wrench is what you want.

I should think that snug and even would cover it. But an in-lb wrench on Amazon Prime is only about $30.

Home Depot has a husky tool brand, 1/4 inch drive I think it is $60. I was thinking of getting one myself for working on my various bicycles. I’d be careful of off brand from amazon. I’ve heard the calibration can be way off. Proper calibration at that level is the difference between successful project and broken bolts.
