Kinja'd!!!

I’m strongly considering buying a first gen Tundra after driving my dad’s around for a couple of days. For a truck with 170k miles, it drives way better than I expected.

He’s actually got two first gen Tundras and both have been rock solid with the amount of mileage that have been put on them.

I told myself to hold off and wait for a decent fourth gen 4Runner to pop up, but holy crap, people are asking some crazy prices for them.

I’ve got a couple of alerts set up for either one on a couple of sites. Well, that’s my Sunday for ya.

When I was shopping 3rd gen 4runners I could have found a 4th gen for about the same price. For some reason there was huge demand for the third gens, especially with a stick or rear locker

I know nothing about them but they seem like good trucks. Although the stepside one was hideous.

Yeah, the market for 3rd Gens is even crazier in my opinion. A couple of years back, my brother bought a 4Runner. He recently sold it for what you could buy a 4th gen for.

They’re just expensive for what you get(age, mileage)

They do hold their value longer if that’s a concern.

How much are you looking to pay for a 4th gen?

My uncle actually bought a stepside Tundra brand new... I asked him why and he said it was just too cheap to pass up.

I’m really trying to cap it off around 9 because I want to do some modifications as soon as I buy it, but I’d probably be willing to spend up to 11.

Cheaper. Because uglier.

No doubt it’s the ugliest truck I’ve seen. But hey, 200k miles on and he’s still got it.

My favorite version of this platform is the 05-07 Sequoia. It has the updated VVT-i version of the 4.7 V8, a 5-speed auto instead of 4-speed, and its full-time 4wd system was upgraded from an open center differential with power moved around by traction control, to a proper Torsen center differential.

My dad loves his, had it since new - king cab 4x4 with the 4.6 in that forest green color that was popular on the 1st gens. I tactfully suggested several years ago that if he wanted to sell it I would certainly be a market and he shut me down - not for sale. :)

That’s a reasonable range. You can def find the 5spd ones with high mileage for that price. I’ve been toying with the idea of selling mine but I would probably want 11-12

That’s what I’m trying to hold out for, an 05+ so it gets the 5 speed. I had the chance to buy a low mileage 06 but I was a bit slow on pulling the trigger.

Rust rust rust rust rust. If you live where rust is a thing, these rust.

I couldn’t find one for under $8k, and even the ones around $15 had rot at the front leaf spring hangers.
