So, the upper hinge on my new XJ is ripping off the body... common issue. I have a repair idea and want to gather opinions.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I like the idea of using the stiffeners from the above link. But I don’t have a welder and don’t want to pay the $$$ for a welder to do it for me. I do, however, have a few tubes of Lord panel bonding adhesive. This is the stuff your body man and repair shop uses to patch up your car. This is the stuff that many of the factories use when building your new car. And supposedly this stuff has a stronger bonding rate than a lot of welds.

I’m thinking about using the support patch from hooligan off-road but bonding the support to the unibody and the hinge to the support rather than welding. Thoughts?

Personnaly i would want it welded.

Now might be the time to buy a welder, you got a jeep, odds are you will need it again.

To me, metal must be welded not glued

While I don’t trust the idea of bonding metal with glue at home, I do know how powerful those adhesives can be. I imagine it would work, especially with the surface area of the new bracket.

But you can find a welder on craigslist for under 100 bucks and try to weld it.

Good luck either way you go. Make sure the alignment of the hinge is spot on before you bond it. Mine is still a bit off.
