I just had a great idea when I woke up this morning which has motivated me tremendously. It all started when I picked up a new atlas yesterday. When I finish my mustang the one thing I want to do is a road trip without the help of gps or electronics for directions. Then it hit me. I really wanted to see Radwood but it’s all the way in California and I am in New York... That’s it!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Cannonball Run but modified to end at Radwood. Furthermore, I am adding some extra guidelines to the run. The biggest one yet is NO ELECTRONICS you can obivously have your phone for communication or emergencies but you cannot have 20 gps’ running with different routes and a myriad of radar detectors searching for every single band in existence. Just you and a co-driver preferably in 80's~90's attire for Radwood bombing across the country. Then on the way back you take it slow and explore places you never would have otherwise.

Sounds cool!

I never use GPS. Maps and road signs will get you there.

I’m thinking about this for my next off road tour. All paper maps and orienteering. I stink at it and would like to be better

It can’t hurt that’s for sure. I am mainly doing it this way because I want my co-driver to be an actual co-driver and not someone just repeating what a computer is saying. It adds something extra to the trip and sometimes takes you on ways you wouldn’t have gone before.

I remember the first GPS I owned had a function where it would draw a straight line from your position to your destination, and you could use it as a guide to figure out your own route as you went.

I use GPS heavily but that’s because I am on long island where accidents and slow downs are everywhere. Quick reroutes are really helpful. For this road trip though I want it to be a throwback to my childhood and really disconnect from the internet and enjoy the journey.

They sure will but on long island GPS is almost necessary to avoid ludicrous amounts of accidents and back ups. As soon as I get west of NYC it should be pretty smooth sailing.

It is a very nice place to live but people cant drive at all and it is a real hassle to get off the island unless you leave really early in the morning or late at night.
