That likes the 1G Avalanche?

Kinja'd!!!

The cladding and flares. That special front end. The utility and uniqueness. I was selling GMCs when these came out and was immensely jealous of the Chevy fucks because they were moving Avalanches like hotcakes.

I’ve always wanted one - yes with cladding because the WBH units look bland, like something is missing (hint: it’s the cladding) - and I’m surprised at the kind of pricetags they still hold today. But I’ll have one someday. A nice Z71 1500, preferably dark green though that orange always sat real well on the Av.

My parents had an orange Z71 when I was in high school and college. They traded it for a HHR, for reasons still unknown. My mom brings it up at least once a month she wants “the pumpkin” back.

Oh that pickup truck that though looking like an Aztek was design?

No I’m not a fan.

That orange looks horrible on most vehicles. For some reason it just worked on the Av.

If having body cladding equates to looking like an Aztek then yes. And, if the previous statement is true, there’s a shit-ton of Aztek wannabes out today

I wonder if I would hate the cladding less... if only it didn’t stop so abruptly part-way up the wheel arches.

Well the avalanche is a bit different. It’s body cladding is quite obviously inspired by the Aztek.

The front end was a bit better than the Silverado. Honestly, over the years, I’ve grown to like it.

They hold their value shockingly well in flyover country too.

I love them. As for the Aztec comparo, yeah- GM went a bit batshit during that era, and it was a great thing! Love them or hate them, the Aztec, SS-R, Avalanche, HHR and Malibu Maxx were memorable weirdos and a stark contrast to GM’s current “Look! We made another Malibu! Why, yes, it IS just as forgettable as the previous generation!” way of doing business. The Avalanche was basically just a Suburban with an open cargo area, available in myriad trims from half ton 2wd to 3/4 ton 4x4 with big block power. The midgate made for a truck that could fill the roles of a crew cab short bed and a regular cab long bed, and it had all sorts of neat little cubbies and design elements.

10/10 would own one.

I don’t understand how they hold their value so well. For a panned vehicle (muh cladding’s fading!) people sure seem to hold them in high regard

It confuses me too. They sold like mad here in the Midwest. And the farmers that have them ain’t letting go cheap.

I know my Uncle liked them, if that means anything. Although I’m still confused as to why it wasn’t just a special trim of the silverado, since it was just that with some extra cladding IIRC.

Because it wasn’t. It was actually a Suburban with the rear glass area chopped off. Those plastic sail panels are covering support buttresses they had to put in place to make up the rigidity that was removed during the process.

I wanted one soo bad. But being broke at the time, now the problem is that the good ones are still big money and anything in my price range is junk or needs too much work.

I was surprised to learn that the second gen wasn’t selling well, because I see them all the time around here. I guess all 13,000 of them were sold in the Midwest.
