Kinja'd!!!

First big storm of the winter hit us hard, as you can see. The Sunchaser was covered but not under cover. The “waterproof” cover was not, and the car is wet and filthy. 65 degrees tomorrow, so I can wash it. But it was pretty scary to realize the rain soaked through the cover.

I also left the sunroof partially open in my Infiniti, and it got a little damp. That was hard to face, especially because I knew my poor emergency preparation had enabled a tragedy that did not need to happen.

Man, winter arrives fast and hits hard. I hope ol’ Jack Frost isn’t being too hard on your town. Remember, be prepared for inclement weather, and safety first!

Can you nikwax the cover or are you just going to get a different one?

Sounds like the cover is water resistant rather than waterproof.

You can increase the protection by treating the exterior surface by giving it a good clean, then after leaving it to dry for a couple of days, treat with a waterproofing agent like Nanolex Convertible Top Sealant, Gtechniq I1, 303 Fabric Guard, AutoFinesse Rag Top Protector, Gyeon Fabric Coat, etc... Simply spray on and with a gloved hand wipe over the surface to push the sealant into the fibres so it’s not merely sitting on top, then after an hour or so (depending on individual instructions) spray a mist several times over the surface and leave to dry for 24 hours.

Svend, have you used nikwax before? It is amazing as I’m sure the products you mentioned are. It is a shoe in for his application.

I’ve used Nikwax for coats and boots (I worked in an outdoor store for five years), but I’ve never used it on a vehicle, I didn’t know it was available for vehicles.

On coats and footwear, Nikwax products are very good indeed. For a vehicle, I couldn’t honestly say.
