Burlington always has a pretty fantastic shoe selection for a store supposedly dedicated to coats.

Did you get the proofer to help the exterior repel water?

Did you get some good winter walking socks with extra cushioning along the underside and top of the foot?

These boots are waterproof by design, and I own a few pairs of reinforced wool socks.

I have an ancient pair of Sorrel Caribous that I wear for serious winter stuff but they’re too heavy for everyday wear. Something like that looks perfect.

I’m really pleased with my purchase. I wasn’t looking for actual snow boots, just something tough and water resistant so I don’t trash my sneakers walking around in slush and muck.

Here’s to waterproof boots. I had to step into a running stream a month or so back and that’s when my boots paid for themselves. Your future self will thank you.

Ye’, waterproof by design means it doesn’t let water in as there is a waterproof membrane (like Goretex) or coating (like Sympatex) sandwiched between the outer shell and liner, the exterior ins’t water proof and can become wet and reduce the breathability of the footwear.

I was a Duke of Edinburgh Award outdoor clothing advisor for five years, several years ago.

The number of people who came back saying their coats or boots weren’t waterproof, but was down to lack of maintence of washing and reproofing coats and cleaning and reproofing boots.

I bought a pair of Timberland’s a couple of weeks ago from BassPro. Very comfortable and easy to lace up. I tried a cheaper pair of RedHead boots (the store brand), and they felt and looked like cheap ass boots. Uncomfortable and did not feel like quality boots. I put a lot of miles on my boots, camping with the scouts and doing field work on the job. I basically wore out the soles of my last pair, which were Cabella’s and lasted well over ten years. If I needed a pair of boots just to kick around in doing yard work and such, I’d buy a $30 - $40 pair and wear them till they fell apart. Hope those work out for you.

I’ve never bought Rockport boots before, but I have had their shoes. They last decently long but more importantly, they stay comfy right up to the end.

Well, if their shoes are anything to go by, those boots should last a long time. I have a pair black Rockports and they are well over 10 years old as well.
