Today I drove it as a commuter, to see if it’s actually fixed. I totally get daily driving excess, it’s fun and relaxing at the same time. I do wish it had an instant MPG gauge though, and like all GM trucks, at least up until the 900, the base mirrors absolutely suck.

Fortunately if they aren’t power folding or the power extending camper mirrors, you can get twin arm towing mirrors for cheap, pull off the sail panels on the doors, a few bolts, and away you go.

ultra-gauge will give you instant what ever you want

Keep it plugged in your ODBII port. plus can read and erase error codes too.

I’ve always liked those mirrors.

But they are awful, fuck me if I want to spot where my wheels are on the road, right?

I have no trouble spotting where my wheels are on the road.

At least the mirrors are big enough to stick on those little convex round things. I did that with my Suburban of the same generation, it was OK.

The big tow mirrors look absolutely boss on the 2500s.

And yea, instant MPG would be cool, but also depressing. I average 14 DDing my 1500.

How? Instead of 4 sided mirrors, GM decided to go around the arm instead of just sitting the mirror on top.

I was doing store to store, office to office driving, so I would expect around 4-5 with the 8.1.

Tow mirrors are in it’s future.

Tow mirrors rule. The factory mirrors are completely inadequate. These are the Kool Vue mirrors, and they require leveling to look right, but they’re decently priced. I use a Scanguage 2 for my MPGs. It does the trick.

I took my first unladen highway trip yesterday and managed 15.2 mpg. I was pretty pleased with that!

Power folding I assume. If I recall on the GMT800s, the plug is the same for the power glass adjustment, but you just will have this empty middle position where it formerly folded the mirrors.

My Silverado has the power extending camper mirrors.
