Kinja'd!!!

So it turns out the cable wasn’t broken or loose. The pull handle and the latch weren’t broken either. The latching mechanism just needed to be greased. First time this car’s ever had a problem that cost less than $100 and took less than an hour to fix.

How smooth does it shift?

I’m sure theirs a joke in there somewhere about the owners never needing to open the hood.... or something like that.

This used to happen with my S40 a lot. Greasing the mechanism would free it up for a while, but it always re-jammed pretty quickly. My hood latch was visibly bent though, so you will hopefully have better luck. I eventually just resorted to shoving my key fob into the trunk release to hold it open, at which point I could go around and lift up the hood to get to the under hood release.
