0-60 in 1.9 seconds. 0-100 in 4.2 seconds. 600+ mile range on a charge. Those are irrational numbers.

Don’t forget the 250+ MPH top speed.

All for the price of a Ferrari California T.

can we wait until they stop running around like headless pullets and get the Model 3 launched before blowing this guy some more? This is a sneaky way to raise capital ($50,000 reservation fee for a car which only exists as a rendering?)

Christ, the cult of personality around this guy is downright sickening.

So, even though the Model 3 has failed to meet sales expectations, I don’t think it’s failed to meet any performance expectations (hard to tell, I know, since they’re all owned by employees at this point and no big name car magazine has been able to independently test it). The Model S definitely came through on a performance basis. I guess what I’m saying is, he’s been over-optimistic on production ability, but has he ever had to walk back any performance statements up to this point?

It is an easy way for them to pocket $50 million (which they probably burn through daily), and the Musk for Savior following is very real among some of his adherents, but I don’t put it past them that they can actually build this thing.

Unveiling vaporware that you can’t follow though on is not great for the long-term success of a company...

From the Rolling Stone article: On the other hand, one thing Musk is notorious for is setting ambitious deadlines that he often can’t meet. The Roadster, the Model S and the Model X were all delayed from his original timeline, and now the Model 3 – with its nearly half-a-million-person-long waiting list – is experiencing its own production delays. There are many reasons for this, but Musk summarizes: “Better to do something good and be late than bad and be early.” So expect Musk to get it done, just not on time. Because if he can’t do it, he won’t pretend otherwise.

Sorry for the additional reply, just a little back-up on the idea that he makes crazy claims on deadlines but not on the “brass tacks”. If you haven’t read the whole article, it’s a pretty fascinating character study, honestly. He’s a brilliant, flawed individual, and it’s hard to look away from would could be either a massive train wreck or an unprecedented series of incredible successes. Reading Lutz’s (and Alex Roy’s) takes on it all along the way has been interesting, too.

A base California T with no options is $202k. A base version of this new Tesla “Roadster” is $200k.
