What are some trick plays y'all ran "Back in da day" when you played sportsball?

I remember one we did in middle school football was; we’d only have 10 people go onto the field and all the receivers on the opposite side from us. Then on the next to last hike a receiver would step off the sideline onto the field and run a fly route down the sideline.

We only ran it in a game once and the guy caught it out of bounds. I remember the ref went over to our coach after that and said.

“If y’all do that again I’m gonna call it back.”

Of course we also practiced the swing in gate, but we only ran that once too and the other team new what to do so it didn’t work well.

I didn’t play basketball, but I remember our team had a play called “The barking dog” were during a throw in, they’d sub in a backup who didn’t play much. Then he’d get on all fours and start barking like a dog and they’d throw the ball in while the other team was confused.

During gym (mostly free days) i’d just hang out with the girls playing ring toss or getting my Tom Clancy on.

Besides that, I was the water distribution engineer, towel manager, out of bounds ball returner, orange slice chef for the girl’s soccer team.

I am total garbage when it come to sports. ANY sport. Even fake sports like video games and poker.

Qb throws a screen right after the snap laterally and slightly backward but bounces the ball off the ground into the receivers hands. Everybody assumes it’s an incomplete pass but it’s actually a fumble and the receiver casually walks for a first down/takes off if there’s a hole

I was on the tennis team. We did not take our athleticism very seriously. Our practices consisted of playing each other and a very occasional drill. One time the coach had us run laps on the track. We sucked.

The only tricks we pulled were occasionally intentionally hitting stray balls over the fence at the girls’ field hockey team so we’d have an excuse to talk to them when they threw the ball back, and eating mass quantities of Wendy’s before our matches.

My favorite for soccer was when we’d get a free kick near the opponents box the we’d have 2 or three guys get ready as if they were taking the kick. The first guy runs up and steps over the ball and keeps going, second guy runs up and times kick to chip it just over the wall to the first guy as he runs past. It’s simple, elegant, and if used sparingly usually works.

My junior year of highschool there was 1:12 left in the game and we were down 8-6 on our own 8-yard line. Our coach comes in with the call, ‘72-Hook and Ladder’.

The team we were playing was more than double our size and we hadn’t beaten them in over 25-years. We kind of all knew this was our chance to do something great. We practiced this play pretty much every week and our success with it against no defense was spotty at best.

We line up (I played left guard) and the ball is snapped. Pat, our Quarterback gets the ball and takes his 5-step drop. His brother, Paco, lined up to the left starts up field and runs his designated 10-yard hook-in. Our offensive line provided solid protection and Pat was able to make a perfect through.

While all this is happening, John, our running back has sprinted out to his left turns up field and begins running at full-speed between Paco’s position and the sideline. Paco jumps to catch the ball and as soon as he lands, he simultaneously pitches the ball to John while he is hit in the back by the cornerback. He could not have made a more perfect pitch if he tried and ball landed perfectly in John’s hands where he then sprinted down the field and took it in for the touchdown.

We converted a two-point conversion after the snap was botched on the extra point attempt and then sealed the victory with a pick-6 on the next possession.

I was a 3-sport athlete in high school and then played football in college as well. I never had any better of a sports moment in my life than that hook and ladder play.

“Center sneak” in football. The center snaps the ball, hits the QBs hands, takes it back, and takes off running. Only works if the center is uncovered.

That reminds me of one! We had one were he’d hand the ball off to the QB then he’d stuff it in the back of the center’s jersey and he’d take off down the field. It was amazing.
